We don't know anything about the reasons he has for choosing people. Maybe he knew you were a risk but had to bring you here anyway. Maybe you were going to do something in your future that he wants to prevent. We don't have enough information to say.

If he doesn't know things for certain he shouldn't state them as fact, and nor should you. My understanding of temporal mechanics and my observations of the Earthers here suggests something different from what you're concluding.
