This is great. Skulduggery doesn't even have to pretend to enjoy the situational comedy happening here, rolling onto his side so that he might watch Max's approach better. After all, as the lyrics say, "Through the wind and the chill and the rain, and the storm and the flood... I can feel his approach like a fire in my blo-o-od!"

And then, because the rest of the song really is just the chorus over again and he certainly has proven he knows that part of the song, he lowers the microphone a bit and addresses the situation directly. Normally, he wouldn't bother, but Max is a friend and deserves that courtesy, figment or not.

"You can't sing, but you can certainly be a lively audience," he says. "Assuming you're actually..." Well, there, but if he is, then Skulduggery doesn't want him to know that he's seeing things. That would be... bad. "Well, I don't know. Why are you here?"
