He's a little stung by it to be honest, and maybe even a few weeks ago he would have stuttered and stumbled. But he's done things. He's seen things. Maybe he isn't as ruggedly cool as Ed in a fight. But maybe he doesn't have to be.
He smiles a little.
"Well, I've started a fight, made them set their whole ship on fire and left it a burning wreck behind me. And I've won a fight with my sword against Blackbeard's first mate." And not because he was good but because he was clever which is more or less the same thing.
"I've captured English officers, escaped from the Spanish, terrified some Dutch merchants just for the hell of it-- and I've only just started." It's not bad, actually. Not bad at all. Frankly given how little he knows about everything, it's impressive he's even survived this long- but he has and he will continue to do so because he won't give up and won't let the likes of men who think they know everything but know nothing drag him down.
"Think of what I can do when I really get going! And if you haven't heard of me well--" He spreads his hands. "Not everyone is on the up and up, don't feel bad."
