Three days has been longer, but not by much.
Three days. Knowing doesn't stop Dimitri pacing outside cabin 123 through the small hours, just in case, just in case -- Friday's been erratic with these things lately, maybe she'll get to Ossie early. Dimitri wasn't there when Ossie died, but he'll be there when he wakes up. He has to.
(He has to see it for himself. To know that it's real, that his friend is really back, that death is as impermanent here as everyone's told him and his mind hasn't shattered completely.)
Six AM passes the first day, with nothing. And the second. But the third night, Friday comes back, carrying Ossie, and Dimitri steps aside for her, and.
And then he just has to stand, and knock, and pray that Ossie's cabinmate is there and compassionate enough to let him in.
