JUNE EVENT: CAMP
early on June 10th, Friday's morning announcements end with a request for everyone going on the latest excursion to meet her in the atrium. she seems in noticeably better spirits than she had been last time, and she leads them cheerfully to the tender. once they are all aboard, and the door is securely shut, the interior fills with gas, and, perhaps, their last thought before they slip into unconsciousness is "oh shit, not again."
passengers wake up on a rickety old school bus, driving down a dirt road surrounded by woods. what is it that they notice first? that, no matter what they were wearing before, they are now wearing a camp t-shirt and legitimately horrifyingly short shorts? the overstuffed backpack between their knees? the words "take one down and pass it around" dying on their lips? the fact that Friday is absolutely driving the bus?
or, maybe the fact that it's already slowing down, pulling up in front of a massive wooden sign, saying:
when they get out of the bus, Friday is the one to divide them up into their cabin groups, and she is the one to give the counselors their very official-looking clipboards and whistles. she explains that they are in charge, and that she will be back to pick them up in a week, and... very little else. she responds to nothing outside of whatever is on her unseen little script, and she gets back on the bus shortly after, leaving them there.
welcome to camp. let's make some summer memories!

Question!
[ Kano's hand shoots up into the air, like he's waiting to be called on in class. ]
no subject
By all means, please, ask away!
[ he will answer to the best of his ability! ]
no subject
[ What is it going to take to set this entire forest on fire, please tell him ]
It's important to know how to start fires so we know what not to do, right?
no subject
nooooo please don't make him think about how this isn't a fun trip at allat first, ingo fixes him with a look that's even sterner than his ever-lasting frown, because that's very dangerous and reckless.then, after giving the matter some thought, he feels as though he might understand where this train of logic is bound for. it makes the resignation slip through the cracks ever so slightly. ]
To start with, you would have no guarantees of not getting the rest of this area caught up in the flames, nor can we know that anyone is nearby to spot the smoke.
[ ingo steps a little bit closer, shaking his head in disapproval even as he's sounding more sympathetic. ]
Please, never take such a risky gamble on an outcome this uncertain. Your life is not worth so little as to warrant it, and neither is anyone else's. This, I will not budge on, sir.

hard to have fun when Igno immediately shoots down his suggestion, but it's a response Kano had expected anyways and he doesn't look too disappointed by it. What makes his expression change is that claim of the importance of his life, a scoff escaping his lips as he looks away briefly and then back, the usual smile back on his face as if it had never left. ]
Man, and here I thought you were the fire expert. You ever had to handle a real fire before? There are some things important enough to risk your life for, y'know? That's, like, firefighter 101.

Not at all. [ he sure admits to that very readily, but openness and honesty are key to establishing good rapport. having worked as a manager of public transport for so long has taught him as much. ] To call myself an expert would be disingenuous when the best I can manage is the sharing of safety procedures I have been taught by or worked with experts in their field to develop. Even working closely with them does not make me an expert in turn, so much as it means that I can hopefully carry forward what I have learned from experiences that I could manage thanks to their guidance.
Should anyone more qualified be present, I would gladly allow them to take over, though none have so far come forward, unfortunately.
[ a bit of a shame. but at least raising fire-type pokémon makes one a bit more flame-savvy than those who do not. ]

Then what are you an authority in? I thought maybe you might be a teacher or something.
[ Teachers conduct fire drills? that should be enough fire experience to give lectures on the subject like this, he thinks. ]
At least there's people like you and the muster guys who care about safety.
