JUNE EVENT: CAMP

early on June 10th, Friday's morning announcements end with a request for everyone going on the latest excursion to meet her in the atrium. she seems in noticeably better spirits than she had been last time, and she leads them cheerfully to the tender. once they are all aboard, and the door is securely shut, the interior fills with gas, and, perhaps, their last thought before they slip into unconsciousness is "oh shit, not again."

passengers wake up on a rickety old school bus, driving down a dirt road surrounded by woods. what is it that they notice first? that, no matter what they were wearing before, they are now wearing a camp t-shirt and legitimately horrifyingly short shorts? the overstuffed backpack between their knees? the words "take one down and pass it around" dying on their lips? the fact that Friday is absolutely driving the bus?

or, maybe the fact that it's already slowing down, pulling up in front of a massive wooden sign, saying:

CAMP AION

when they get out of the bus, Friday is the one to divide them up into their cabin groups, and she is the one to give the counselors their very official-looking clipboards and whistles. she explains that they are in charge, and that she will be back to pick them up in a week, and... very little else. she responds to nothing outside of whatever is on her unseen little script, and she gets back on the bus shortly after, leaving them there.

welcome to camp. let's make some summer memories!

[dora voice] sharky no burning!

[ ah, here is a gentleman who was present throughout that entire drill. it really is heartwarming to see that people take matters of safety seriously. why, it leaves ingo in such a good mood that he's even more spirited than usual.

not that it shows all that much on his face, but it's audible in his voice. ]

It is lighter fluid, yes. [ he gives a little salute here, because ingo is nothing if not dedicated to his routines. ] Hence, you may rest assured that a fire will be lit safely by myself, or another counselor, sir!

[ which is definitely what the concern was about, yes? ]
broshaw: (08. let it whip)

but he loves to burn :(

[Sharky clocks the whistle and the short-shorts and realizes that he's come face to face with the worst sort of authority: the kind that's arbitrarily placed on complete randos. Given how little he likes authority to begin with, this whole counselor thing is a total fuckin' joke to him. That's why he likes his counselor -- she doesn't actually give a shit about the rules.]

Uhh, right, man. So you don't think there's any kerosene anywhere? Way faster than lighter fluid, and the bottle doesn't have that shitty little nozzle that limits the flow. I bet we could get this fucker like, twelve feet high if we tried!

[Because that's definitely... safe and sane and well within the bounds of the safety talk Ingo was giving, right???]

oh fine....... if he makes that face...... maybe a tiny bit of SAFE burning in a secluded area

[ ugh, these tiny shorts... ingo kind of hates them. he likes the whistle and the responsibility, not feeling as if he's walking around in his underwear, thank you very much. it's due to that responsbility that he shakes his head with the tiniest deepening of his permanent frown. ]

I do not think so, no. I've yet to come across any indications of there being kerosene, or any other, accelerant, present.

[ why would you want the fire to get that big anyway??? dangerous! ]

It may be true that we could, in theory, create a fire of that scope... but we lack a practical reason for doing so.
broshaw: (14. you should be dancing)

...Practical reason? [He doesn't understand the words. What do you mean, a reason for a huge fire? Fire is, like, fire, man!] What about, because it would be dope as hell?

[Safety shmafety, let's burn the buildings down! ...Or not, because they need them to survive. But they can at least burn, like, some chairs or something, right?]
