JUNE EVENT: CAMP

early on June 10th, Friday's morning announcements end with a request for everyone going on the latest excursion to meet her in the atrium. she seems in noticeably better spirits than she had been last time, and she leads them cheerfully to the tender. once they are all aboard, and the door is securely shut, the interior fills with gas, and, perhaps, their last thought before they slip into unconsciousness is "oh shit, not again."

passengers wake up on a rickety old school bus, driving down a dirt road surrounded by woods. what is it that they notice first? that, no matter what they were wearing before, they are now wearing a camp t-shirt and legitimately horrifyingly short shorts? the overstuffed backpack between their knees? the words "take one down and pass it around" dying on their lips? the fact that Friday is absolutely driving the bus?

or, maybe the fact that it's already slowing down, pulling up in front of a massive wooden sign, saying:

CAMP AION

when they get out of the bus, Friday is the one to divide them up into their cabin groups, and she is the one to give the counselors their very official-looking clipboards and whistles. she explains that they are in charge, and that she will be back to pick them up in a week, and... very little else. she responds to nothing outside of whatever is on her unseen little script, and she gets back on the bus shortly after, leaving them there.

welcome to camp. let's make some summer memories!

archery

What's worse than an amateur archer with only one eye and zero depth perception? An amateur archer with one eye and zero depth perception shooting at night who's gotten barely any sleep over the past week save for a few catnaps. Kaeya might have gone through mandatory training with a bow for the knights, but that really doesn't help him any as his arrow corkscrews wildly to thud into the edge of Darcy's target; it would almost be impressive if it weren't for the fact that he's standing quite a few paces down the field and clearly aiming nowhere near her.

"Whoops, sorry!" He trots over sheepishly to pull out his arrow, though he doesn't look bothered in the least about his poor showing of skill. "Wow, I've gotten even worse at this."

...it probably doesn't help his aim any that as he pulls it out, it quickly becomes obvious that in a fit of madness of the truly sleep-deprived, he has glued googly eyes onto this arrow. In fact, he's done it to all his arrows. It's not like he'll be hitting anything with them anyway.

"Why is your arrow looking at me," Darcy asks before she can consider if it's a good idea to ask.

"It's fine, though, you didn't hit me or anything. I didn't realise you did archery too."

"I figured more eyes couldn't hurt, right? Since I'm, ah, slightly hindered in that department..." He gestures at his eyepatch, though judging by his cheeky grin, he very clearly realizes what a bullshit line of logic this is. Truth is, the combination of sleep deprivation and extreme boredom has driven him to finding pretty much anything hilarious right now.

He snorts a little at her second comment, rubbing the back of his head ruefully. "I don't think this counts as 'doing' archery, but I thank you for the ease to my pride. It's mandatory training for knights, but let's just say it's never been one of my stronger skills."

"Have you tried sticking them on the eyepatch?" she asks, gesturing to her eye on the same side, "it probably couldn't hurt."

He looks about as rough as she does, she notices now that she's less startled. Most people with any sort of background fighting had been struggling, it seemed, to deal with the peace and the lack of a need for things like perimeters and reflexes to stop yourself from getting bisected.

"I get it. Fighting at range is for other people. I prefer up close and personal too, this is just the most violent thing I could find at this camp."
