JUNE EVENT: CAMP
early on June 10th, Friday's morning announcements end with a request for everyone going on the latest excursion to meet her in the atrium. she seems in noticeably better spirits than she had been last time, and she leads them cheerfully to the tender. once they are all aboard, and the door is securely shut, the interior fills with gas, and, perhaps, their last thought before they slip into unconsciousness is "oh shit, not again."
passengers wake up on a rickety old school bus, driving down a dirt road surrounded by woods. what is it that they notice first? that, no matter what they were wearing before, they are now wearing a camp t-shirt and legitimately horrifyingly short shorts? the overstuffed backpack between their knees? the words "take one down and pass it around" dying on their lips? the fact that Friday is absolutely driving the bus?
or, maybe the fact that it's already slowing down, pulling up in front of a massive wooden sign, saying:
when they get out of the bus, Friday is the one to divide them up into their cabin groups, and she is the one to give the counselors their very official-looking clipboards and whistles. she explains that they are in charge, and that she will be back to pick them up in a week, and... very little else. she responds to nothing outside of whatever is on her unseen little script, and she gets back on the bus shortly after, leaving them there.
welcome to camp. let's make some summer memories!

jinx takes a peek at the rough drawing and hums quietly as a response and an approval of it.)
Yeep, looks like we're not dyin' this go round. 'Less we're savin' it for the last day.
no subject
(However, now that she brought up the last day, there was something special about it. Ekko cleared his throat a moment, she seemed really close now as she was peaking at the drawing.)
Speaking of the last day. There's apparently a dance, you plan on going to it?
no subject
sitting up right and scoots away from the his notebook, she grins to him sheepishly but still trying to keep that bouncy energy going.)
Uh, I dunno! Maybe, maybe not? The last time I went to somethin' like that diiiidn't go so well for me. Eh heh heh... — What, are you?
no subject
(Ekko found himself fidgeting a little, grabbing a stick and poking at the embers of the fire, his cheeks were warm and he could quite bring himself to look over at the moment.)
no subject
the party where all of her problems started. but still, her pale complexion turn a shade of pink-ish red and she can't really blame the sun burning her since it's... night. trying to play it off coolly, she chuckles.)
You're askin' me? Seriously, are ya sure about that?
(she decides to lie down on the grass below them -- thinking maybe if she stares up at the stars, it'll help.)
There's so many girls here you could choose from that are way... nicer. Aaaaand might even have that same hero-like personality. You sure you wanna handle a wild, troublemakin' girl like me?
no subject
(He really didn't see himself that way, he wasn't a hero, he was just someone that was fighting for the same thing everyone else was. Just someone that was trying to make things better, if he was a hero he'd be on the mural with all the others that they lost, not sitting here worrying about a dance.)
But yeah if I was going to go I wanted it to be with you. Plus I wanna see your moves.
no subject
(she turns her head away from stargazing to yet again showing him a smug look. but going to the dance with him isn't at all a bad though, honestly. it would definitely better than going alone or not going and quietly seething.
jinx is treating this camp experience to focus on herself, so to speak. and so far during this journey, she is coming to realize that ekko's presence has such a calming aura to it and she is actually enjoying having him as her company.)
no subject
(He caught sight of her smug grin and could help but return one of his own. She might have found him calming, but Ekko found a fresh breath of energy from Jinx. Something that kept the camper from being boring.)
no subject
(the smug then twists into a soft yet genuine smile. and before she notices it, the words spill out for her.)
... Looks like the answer is yes. I'll go with you.
no subject
(Somehow it was starting to sound more like a competition than a date, but both still sounded fun. Besides this might be a chance for Ekko to meet a few more of the people Jinx had spoken about.)
It's a date.
no subject
Never been on a date before. ... Any idea on how that works?
no subject
(He ran a hand through his hair shooting a grin at her before leaning back. It couldn't be all that complicated could it? It wasn't like it was the only shot they'd have.)
no subject
(it might be a playful jab at the fact he doesn't have it little special pocket watch on him. and jinx can definitely tell it is something he is pretty bummed about. but honestly, she feels pretty witty for coming up with that.)
no subject
Guess you'll have to wait and see, at the end of the night you can tell me how I do.
no subject
(and she once more, bumps him with her foot to his before glancing back up at their sky above them.)
no subject
If you're the professor how do I get detention.)I'll make it fun. You can count on that at least.
(Flipping the stick he'd been prodding the coals with, the fluttering in his stomach started to settle down a bit. Hopefully things would keep going this smooth until the dance.)
no subject
(even if they are on the opposite sides of what they want for zaun and even if their game on the bridge was... deadly, it was still fun for a split moment. maybe the two of them can adjust how it's played sometime. because after all, it's one to one and they need to do a tie-breaker.)
no subject
(Pow-pow didn't miss much anymore, and Ekko had been lucky to have made it through their last game. But maybe one day by the pool with some water guns they could settle it.)
no subject
her mind trails off to curious thoughts. a thought maybe his positive aura that she tends to always rant and complain about might hold a little power after all. hmmm.)
Hey. Y'know, I've been hearin' that people believe the killin' might happen on our last night here. — Do you think so?
no subject
(So far it had just been pranks between the different sides, a few looted 'treasures' here and there, tagging each other's cabins, Ekko might have shut off the hot water while one group was in the showers. But nothing serious.)
If it does though, then at least we'll be together to kick their ass.
no subject
(because she definitely has the drive to turn on him if she truly needs to. will she actually do it, well, it's up in the air and depending on the circumstances.)
no subject
Wouldn't be the first.
(It wasn't like he had anyone after Vi vanished and Jinx joined Silco.)
no subject
I didn't see you being there when I needed someone.
(and maybe he would had been if her younger self went on the search for him. but she wanted to prove that she could help without any assistance; that she can handle everything on her own with someone holding her hand.
jinx probably shouldn't be reopening this wound but as far as she is concern, he is the blame with what path this conversation is about go down on.)
no subject
You all left me waiting in the dark in Benzo's shop.
(In one night Ekko had lost the only father he knew, and the only friends that he had, he'd lost his home when Benzo's shop was of course torn apart for whatever killed those enforcers. Ekko turned away from the fire, he didn't want anyone seeing his face, the back of his hand being drawn across it.)
By the time I knew what happened you were gone, everyone was gone. Benzo was dead, Vander was gone, Vi was gone. You were gone, at least until you turned up with Silco.
I was left waiting in the dark waiting for the monsters to come back when none of you did.
no subject
(jinx is doing her absolute best to not shout or get too fired up because it's more than just the two of them here. and so far, she had kept her past mostly a secret and unwraps. well, beyond venti knowing but he is still in the dark on what exactly happened that night )
— So take it up with her.
