JUNE EVENT: CAMP
early on June 10th, Friday's morning announcements end with a request for everyone going on the latest excursion to meet her in the atrium. she seems in noticeably better spirits than she had been last time, and she leads them cheerfully to the tender. once they are all aboard, and the door is securely shut, the interior fills with gas, and, perhaps, their last thought before they slip into unconsciousness is "oh shit, not again."
passengers wake up on a rickety old school bus, driving down a dirt road surrounded by woods. what is it that they notice first? that, no matter what they were wearing before, they are now wearing a camp t-shirt and legitimately horrifyingly short shorts? the overstuffed backpack between their knees? the words "take one down and pass it around" dying on their lips? the fact that Friday is absolutely driving the bus?
or, maybe the fact that it's already slowing down, pulling up in front of a massive wooden sign, saying:
when they get out of the bus, Friday is the one to divide them up into their cabin groups, and she is the one to give the counselors their very official-looking clipboards and whistles. she explains that they are in charge, and that she will be back to pick them up in a week, and... very little else. she responds to nothing outside of whatever is on her unseen little script, and she gets back on the bus shortly after, leaving them there.
welcome to camp. let's make some summer memories!

[ Ruby might jump just a little out of her skin at Jinx barging in but it's fine, she doesn't quite instinctively go for Crescent Rose so she thinks she's at an acceptable level of jumpy for having just been, you know, gassed and dumped here. ]
Oh, well, uh, fine by me! I don't really mind which bed I get. I mean, I usually take a top bunk when I can, but I'm really not that fussy.
[ Socially awkward? Socially awkward. God help her sometimes it feels like her first day at Beacon all over again. ]
no subject
(she skips on in while humming a tone and even does a twirl; long braids following suit.)
'Least there's another girl with me, so THAT'S pretty neat. Not that I don't mind the boys but I'm tryiiiin' stay a bit clear from 'em if I can. They're annoying.
no subject
Heh, sorry. [ she gives a bit of a laugh ] I tryyy not to get into fights unless I've got to.
[ Ruby's got herself plonked on the floor mostly out of the way, looking through the backpack they got dumped with, with Crescent Rose in its rifle form sat on the floor beside her. She really isn't going to lay claim to a bed until the others have picked. ]
Like— these specific boys or boys in general? [ like, she can guess, but also, she doesn't know anyone else in the cabin sooo... it could still be specific! ] That are annoying, I mean.
no subject
All of 'em but uuuuuuhh how about you tell me a lil' more about that?
(to show what she means, she points her index finger at the weapon on the floor.)
— It looks pretty fancy.
(fancy enough to swipe but should she? after all, pow-pow and her pistol would get insanely jealous if she took in something she didn't create her own. )
no subject
Oh— sure! [ Ruby picks the weapon up to rest it over her lap, popping out the back portion into the proper grip, trigger and sights ] This is Crescent Rose. I built it myself, back when I first started combat training. Customisable, high-impact sniper rifle. Bolt-action, thirty bullets per traditional magazine, two shots per Dust magazine.
[ Just like that, she's talking a little less awkwardly—talking about weapons is one of the sure-fire ways to get her at least a little excitable. ]
This isn't her only form, but the scythe would proooobably be hazardous to open inside. She's over six foot tall like that and y'know, super duper sharp.
no subject
it can just be her little secret; a teeny tiny little secret between her and this crescent rose. a forbidden dance the two of them can twirl together in the shadows where no one can see. the scythe is a new touch, though. but she can work with that. just because crescent rose is a little different doesn't mean it's a bad thing. and plus, she's tall, too. )
(jinx hums quietly before finally speaking after being quiet for a little while:)
That sounds so awesome.

[ Ask Ruby and the reaction from Jinx she can actually see is about the reaction a well-made weapon deserves, honestly. 'Meeting new weapons is like meeting new people, only better'—she might not be the innocent, awkward 15 year old that genuinely believed that, anymore, but her love of weapons hasn't gone anywhere. Not in the slightest. A huntsman's weapon is ]
I could show her off properly outside, if you like? I'm avoiding using any ammo since I've only got a couple spare magazines, but just changing modes is easy.
no subject
Would you?
(pow-pow and fishbones don't need to know, it's fine. they will be fine with her just... observing because that's what this is. observing.)
no subject
Yeah, totally! I'm always happy to show her off a bit to people who actually appreciate weapons, which, well, it sounds like you do.
[ There's a special culture around weapons on Remnant, at least those of hunters and huntresses; what weapon you choose and design says a lot about your fighting style and who you are. Still, even then not everyone has an appreciation for them.
She pulls herself up to her feet with Crescent Rose in hand, ready to duck just back outside Gemini Cabin. ]
no subject
(bouncing to her feet, jinx practically sprints out the cabin so they can be out in the field -- nice, wide, and open space for the beautiful crescent rose to show all of her glory.)
no subject
[ Ruby plants her feet firm and holds the currently-a-rifle by the narrow support at the rear, before she activates something and it begins to unfold into another form with distinctive clunks and schwings. Bit by bit, the weapon unfolds out into the giant scythe Ruby described. Crescent Rose is a genuinely remarkable piece of weapons work, honestly. To have this many moving parts, every single pieces has to be perfectly designed and perfectly maintained or she'd just... jam in battle. ]
Ta-da! There's also a war scythe mode, where the angle of the top changes.
[ Ruby swings the scythe effortlessly, until it's resting against her shoulder. She may look fairly scrawny, but there's clearly some upper body strength there to wield this thing so easily. ]
no subject
but. perhaps if she can persuade her to be on her side -- she can be an ally more than an enemy. well until she nabs crescent rose out of her cold dead fingers, of course. it's a shame they return the next day after dead but at least after ruby's death, she'll have crescent rose in her possession. and maybe do a quick run down on how it's operated to create something similar of her own. but until that faithful day, jinx will just work on being "closer".)
WOW! That reaaaallly is somethin'. How long did it take you make it?
no subject
[ Ruby, still so blissfully oblivious to the things Jinx is actually thinking, just tilts her head a little as she thinks back a few years. Signal Academy feels so long ago, now... ]
From concept all the way through to actually building her it was abouuut... nine months? The actual building part maybe a month's worth of classes. We had a class dedicated to weapon design. [ a little shrug and a smile ] But I've been doing maintenance and tweaks ever since; gotta make sure she's the best she can be for every situation, y'know?
Most people design way simpler stuff, I just kinda reaaaally love weapons and may have gone a teensy bit overboard. Heh.
