JUNE EVENT: CAMP

early on June 10th, Friday's morning announcements end with a request for everyone going on the latest excursion to meet her in the atrium. she seems in noticeably better spirits than she had been last time, and she leads them cheerfully to the tender. once they are all aboard, and the door is securely shut, the interior fills with gas, and, perhaps, their last thought before they slip into unconsciousness is "oh shit, not again."

passengers wake up on a rickety old school bus, driving down a dirt road surrounded by woods. what is it that they notice first? that, no matter what they were wearing before, they are now wearing a camp t-shirt and legitimately horrifyingly short shorts? the overstuffed backpack between their knees? the words "take one down and pass it around" dying on their lips? the fact that Friday is absolutely driving the bus?

or, maybe the fact that it's already slowing down, pulling up in front of a massive wooden sign, saying:

 

 

 

 

 

CAMP AION

when they get out of the bus, Friday is the one to divide them up into their cabin groups, and she is the one to give the counselors their very official-looking clipboards and whistles. she explains that they are in charge, and that she will be back to pick them up in a week, and... very little else. she responds to nothing outside of whatever is on her unseen little script, and she gets back on the bus shortly after, leaving them there.

Huh? Oh, no, not— not liquify, that was my semblance, Petal Burst. It's more going super fast—so fast I kinda become a weird blur, heh. [ a beat ] Plus spit out a bunch of rose petals. Hence the name.

[ That's kind of more information than he asked for, but she rambles. It's a thing. 'Going super fast' also doesn't actually totally explain what just happened, but Ruby doesn't know that her semblance is more complicated than that yet. ]

It's quite the name!

[ Some stupid superhero-sounding name that makes him laugh, but damn does it makes him homesick at the same time. ]

Are you that fast on land too, or is it a falling thing?

It's both! Or, well, teeechnically I'm never really touching the ground when I use it, anyway, it sort of... [ she makes a vague moving gesture around shoulder height ] keeps me off it, and I can use it to go upwards, too.

It really comes in handy for quick saves of all kinds. Like catching yourself falling, heh. But also dodging and stuff.

[suddenlybees]

[ Going so fast that you fly... yeah, he can believe that. That's how airplanes work, probably. ]

And stuff like... running through the forest to take a quick peek if there's any civilization on the other side?

[ It takes her a moment longer to catch on there that it maybe should. ]

Oh, like— here, now? I mean, maaaaybe? It depends how big the forest actually is; it's better for short bursts, but I can theoretically go for a while, just eventually my aura would run out.

[suddenlybees]

Right, right, it'd suck real bad if you ran out of juice in the middle of the forest, huh? Yeah, it's too bad.

Yeah, it'd kinda suck. I'd be fine, I could walk back, I've definitely walked further and as far as I've seen there's nothing dangerous out there, anyway, but...

[ She still looks like she's maybe considering it for a moment. ]

Are you wondering because you think there is something beyond the forest, or because you think there isn't?

[suddenlybees]

[ There's a pause before he answers, as if trying to decide which to say even though he wants to say both, at the same time. A something that turns out to be meaningless, a nothing that will be able to answer many questions.

But in the end, he just smiles. ]

I dunno! I guess I'm just curious to see either way! What do you think?

I'm... not sure, I haven't been here that long so I'm not really sure what to expect at all. [ she tilts her head, remembering something from the other day ] Though— there doesn't seem to be anything alive in the forest except us, so...

Maybe there isn't anything beyond it, either.

[suddenlybees]

Really, nothing?

[ No bears or mosquitoes, those are huge plusses already. But no birds or squirrels or deer or ...hamsters or whatever else sort of animal lives in the forest, he doesn't know. No life at all definitely is weird. ]

Either it goes on forever, or there's a boundary somewhere. I'd like to know, either way.

Nothing at all. I haven't gone far but I spent some time patrolling and... nothing. Not in the lake, either.

[ It's very unsettling. It's the kind of silence and lack of life that usually means danger's near, but without any signs of the danger. ]

I— could just go ahead and give it a try. Worst case, I just end up needing a really long nap after I drag myself back.

[suddenlybees]

Yeah? I mean, like, you don't have to force yourself, but it'd be super helpful, y'know? You're one of the only ones who can do this, so I dunno who else to ask.

[ Ruby Rose you're our only hope, etc etc ]

[ In which this stranger immediately taps into Ruby's extreme susceptibility to this exact kind of pressure. No matter the actual stakes, apparently. ]

Yeah, I mean— why not, either way we learn something. Uh— what cabin are you in? I obviously don't know how long this might take, with or without any necessary naps, so I'd have to find you later to let you know one way or another.

[suddenlybees]

Hm? Oh, yeah. I'm in Sagittarius, but I probably won't be in, so, like, you can leave a note under the door or something and I'll come find you? Ah! You can address it to "Kano"!

Works for me! [ she'll have to grab something to write on from the craft supplies, probably, but she hasn't thought that far ahead yet ] Alright, well— time to give it a shot, then!

[ She gives Kano a little salute and will back off to the forest to actually give this a try, and... yeah, considering it's apparently about five miles out before it circles around, her aura definitely breaks before she gets anywhere close and forces her to walk the rest to figure out that it just circles back to camp, somehow.

She will absolutely need a nap before she can report back which does, in fact, come in the form of a note made with craft supplies when she's awake again. ]
