JUNE EVENT: CAMP

early on June 10th, Friday's morning announcements end with a request for everyone going on the latest excursion to meet her in the atrium. she seems in noticeably better spirits than she had been last time, and she leads them cheerfully to the tender. once they are all aboard, and the door is securely shut, the interior fills with gas, and, perhaps, their last thought before they slip into unconsciousness is "oh shit, not again."

passengers wake up on a rickety old school bus, driving down a dirt road surrounded by woods. what is it that they notice first? that, no matter what they were wearing before, they are now wearing a camp t-shirt and legitimately horrifyingly short shorts? the overstuffed backpack between their knees? the words "take one down and pass it around" dying on their lips? the fact that Friday is absolutely driving the bus?

or, maybe the fact that it's already slowing down, pulling up in front of a massive wooden sign, saying:

CAMP AION

when they get out of the bus, Friday is the one to divide them up into their cabin groups, and she is the one to give the counselors their very official-looking clipboards and whistles. she explains that they are in charge, and that she will be back to pick them up in a week, and... very little else. she responds to nothing outside of whatever is on her unseen little script, and she gets back on the bus shortly after, leaving them there.

welcome to camp. let's make some summer memories!

[ Wow, Iva, where's your dedication to being in character? Go out in some puffy shorts and tights and shoot some targets like a real Venti main. Smh.

Mizuki picks up on what he's supposed to do relatively fast. He's always been quick to learn, even back home. It was one of the things he got complimented most on at his jobs. But, he's obviously not a professional or anything. Instead of just letting the arrow go, he tries to slide his hand back off of it, and it disorients the arrow and sends it to a short fall about two feet in front of him. Good job, Mizuki. ]

Oh- [ Well, fuck. He scrambles over to go pick up the arrow. ] Sorry, can you... help me set that up again...?

[ me, venti main?? never disrespect me so disgustingly ever again...

--and. well, a beginner is a beginner. the arrow didn't even fly that far, with a wave of his hand a small updraft brings it aloft and he catches it in a hand. ]
Hm, how about then... [ he did try to teach rather straight-forwardly just now in a matter-of-fact way but perhaps more hands-on is the way to go.

he nudges mizuki flush against him, gently placing his hands over mizuki's to the bow and over the arrow as he draws it back for him, hand over his with the arrow to his cheek, the bowstring taut under their fingers as he brings his face close cheek to cheek to mizuki, his smile catlike and only a little sly. ]

This is how your position should be. [ while just about holding hands over the arrow, his arm over mizuki's, mizuki's body to his. surely this would help with stance. ]

[ Maybe stop being a Venti main and I will…

Mizuki goes just a little rigid when he feels Venti against him. Things are still fairly tense between them, after all. It's why he pulled Venti's hand away from him on the first day. Nothing's really been resolved, either, so… Maybe he's thinking too much about it? He's just trying to help, surely.

Until Venti's cheek is against his, anyway. Man, and Mizuki thought he was bad at reading the room. A part of him truly does want to laugh and tease Venti for this, maybe even turn his head and give his dumb boyfriend a kiss on said cheek. This part of him is surely the one that yearned for touch and used it as a means to connect with people. To understand. But the bitter, hurt part of Mizuki shoved those thoughts to the side. Tendrils coil around Venti and make an effort to peel him away from Mizuki after he corrects his posture. ]

… Thanks. I think I got it. [ Was this a bad idea? Maybe they need more space. Oh, but I don't want to keep avoiding Venti. I miss him.

He fires the arrow and it at least flies this time. It doesn't hit the target at all, however, thumping against the grass some paces behind the target.

Okay, well, that's better, but maybe he doesn't got it, still. ]

[ on one hand, what was he thinking... on the other hand, he was genuinely trying to help as well as flirt. how much easier flirting comes to him than anything else sometimes. how avoidant he can be in hoping his mistakes can just disappear and that things could be normal and easy between them, but then again maybe it's impossible.

message taken, then. there's a sigh as he steps back, putting more distance and putting his hands in his pockets, all the more obvious to show no touching. well this shows just how well he does in a relationship, honestly. he watches the arrow's little flight and maybe it kind of feels like a metaphor for where they are, farther away from hitting the target at all.

... ]
What about it do you think is difficult? [ teaching could be explanations, hands-on, hm... or finding the issue exactly. his look at the target is speculative. ] You can for instance... close one eye to help with aiming. Use the point of the arrow as your guide. Draw until your fingers touch past your cheek.

[ Mizuki is generally pretty open to these sorts of things. Were Venti just a friend, he may have not even bat much of an eye at the contact. However, there's still some upset. Reasonably so. He's forgiven Venti, sure, but to say he's "over it" might be asking way too much of him. Or anyone. A clingy jellyfish, especially. There's a lot difficult about it. His feelings are all muddled, still. Physical contact is not just his love language, after all, but rather his language in general. He doesn't want Venti near him when he's just all over the place with his thoughts. He just needs to sort himself out somehow?

But he knows he's referring to the archery lesson, so!

One of his tendrils snatches the arrow from the ground to bring it back to him, humming a bit in thought. ]
I think it might just be that I'm not used to handling it. I can't keep the tension right, and it feels like it isn't staying upright. It's, ah... probably my fault, I'm just an amateur.

[ Hm. Actually, those weren't his best choice of words, thinking on it. ]
wimdy: (they thinkin tinder with the topic)

Don't say 'fault' like that. Everyone starts somewhere, even the best of archers or any sportsmen.

[ so, this too is understandable, surely a total beginner and newbie wouldn't hit the target first try. but maybe he'd kind of been hoping, as if drawing some kind of unconscious relation between the target and... them, their relationship...

he rocks back on his heels, lets out a breath, tries to relax a little more. giving space is fine. trying to slowly win back trust or forgiveness is fine. they hopefully have time, if this really is a summer camp and won't devolve into some killing game unexpectedly later. ]
In that case, it might just be practice. I could give tips and suggestions on stance and positioning, but the best way to improve is simply to shoot and hands-on experience, over and over again. It certainly isn't an easy skill, but that's the best way to improve at anything hm?

[ hm, like... he remembers mizuki teaching him CPR. that proobably is something a little less easy to practice with, so if he tried saving someone for the first time he might panic and mess things up, but he could hope he's remembered enough information to be even a little useful than completely not. ]
