JUNE EVENT: CAMP

early on June 10th, Friday's morning announcements end with a request for everyone going on the latest excursion to meet her in the atrium. she seems in noticeably better spirits than she had been last time, and she leads them cheerfully to the tender. once they are all aboard, and the door is securely shut, the interior fills with gas, and, perhaps, their last thought before they slip into unconsciousness is "oh shit, not again."

passengers wake up on a rickety old school bus, driving down a dirt road surrounded by woods. what is it that they notice first? that, no matter what they were wearing before, they are now wearing a camp t-shirt and legitimately horrifyingly short shorts? the overstuffed backpack between their knees? the words "take one down and pass it around" dying on their lips? the fact that Friday is absolutely driving the bus?

or, maybe the fact that it's already slowing down, pulling up in front of a massive wooden sign, saying:

CAMP AION

when they get out of the bus, Friday is the one to divide them up into their cabin groups, and she is the one to give the counselors their very official-looking clipboards and whistles. she explains that they are in charge, and that she will be back to pick them up in a week, and... very little else. she responds to nothing outside of whatever is on her unseen little script, and she gets back on the bus shortly after, leaving them there.

welcome to camp. let's make some summer memories!

"Aww, thanks—I put a lot of thought into designing and naming her, I've always seen a huntress's weapon as almost as much of an extension of yourself as a semblance."

Obviously there's the aesthetics, but how you design them says a lot about how you fight, your priorities in a fight, so on.

Her head does tilt a little, though, "I used to name our team attacks, but— marketable? I guess you guys must end up pretty well known, defending just the one city and all, huh?"

"Like celebrities. We give interviews and do meet-and-greets and bring cameramen out on patrol sometimes so they can report on our performances. We even have managers who work out sponsorship deals for us."

She doesn't sound like she's proud of the whole system, for whatever that's worth.

Ruby definitely always tries towards being non-judgemental about... just about anything, so if there's a bit of a wrinkle in her brow for a moment it's more concern than judgement.

"Wow, that is like celebrities! There are some huntsmen like that, they mostly get famous from tournaments though. I had a friend, Pyrrha, she... she won a lot of tournaments. She had her face on a brand of cereal for a long time?"

When in doubt: try to tangentially relate?

"I've never done cereal--I'm best known for hair products, though I've also had some toys. There's an Alchemical Water squirt gun I always kind of liked. My, uh. My patrol buddy has protein powder, though."

She smiles as if none of that's exploitative or concerning in the least, but it's a fragile porcelain smile, that doesn't really reach her eyes.

Yeah, Ruby doesn't miss that detail. She suddenly wishes she understood more about how Pyrrha felt about it all. Maybe she's biased, because she'd hate that kind of exposure regardless of any other factors, but it just sounds... concerning. She's not sure she should call that out with someone she's only just met, though... still, the wrinkle in her brow deepens.

"The squirt gun does sound kinda cute." Which— doesn't exactly give her a thought intended to deliberately switch to a less uneasy topic, but, "So do you like, need water around to use your magic? You can't, like... create it?"

She's guessing so, but that's a funny distinction from what 'actual' magic there is in her own world if so. Since real magic users are the only ones who can create elements wholesale. She... thinks. Probably.
