Waking up in a strange place is a sadly common for Shinichi-it wasn't even the first time he woke up on a strange boat. At least it wasn't a canoe this time. Still, after meeting with the cruise director and the near heart attack from her knowing his real name. He tried to insist there was a mix up but after that mess he decided to distract himself with a little exploring to get a better idea of the layout and where exactly he is.

The first place he's investigating is the main hall. He's got his notebook out and seems to be taking notes and looking far too calm for the age he appears to be.

He looks over as he hears someone approaching and shoves the notebook in his pocket before putting on his best little kid face and rushing up to them.

"Hello! Do you know where we are?" He offers his sweetest little kid face, eyes bright and innocent.

Despite that he shouldn't be able to have this conversation and that he should be very suspicious of everything going on (and he is) he can't help but to smile, beaming almost innocently at the idea Dr Watson thought his deductions were on par with the Sherlock Holmes. Of course, it always boosts his mood when someone makes the comparison.

"Sev-" He has to stop himself slipping up and saying seventeen, the compliment might have thrown him off just a little. "-Er.. Seven." He says easily. "And it's 2020."

"Seven." Good God, but that's young, too young to be here, but then there's likely no appropriate age for any of them to be here. "Well. Please do ask me if you need any help around here, lad. It's... rather exciting to meet anyone so devoted to Holmes's methods, after all. I think he'd be pleased, as well."

Pride in Holmes will always and forever come before pride in his own work.

"Really?" He's allowing himself to get a little too wrapped up in this because the idea that Sherlock Holmes would be pleased with him is almost enough to make Shinichi forget that that actually isn't possible.

"Thank you for the offer, but I think I'll be okay. I've been in a lot worse situations than on a mysterious cruise ship." He'll old off on listing them, a child in grave danger tends to be upsetting for a lot of people and since Watson is depicted as usually being compassionate he'll hazard a guess that he would not like to know about all the life threatening danger Conan tended to find himself in on what was nearly a daily basis.

"Have you, now?"

Well, that's worrying. Granted, on the face of it, a haunted cruise ship isn't all that terrible (yet), but it's the little details that add up into something more worrying, and maybe Conan hasn't seen all of them yet.

"Dare I ask what sort of situations you might have found yourself in?"

Really, he's not that surprised that Watson would ask that question and maybe he should be a little concerned that he has so many examples right at the tip of his tongue. The problem was which should he mention?

"I live with a famous detective and one of his 'clients'" He uses the word loosely. "invited us all to an amusement park and gave us VIP-um special wrist bands that would give unlimited free rides. We found out later there were explosives in the wrist watch and Heiji-niichan and Kogoro-Ojisan only had twelve hours to solve the case or else the client would detonate the explosive. It turned out okay, though I did end up breaking my leg." Don't be too worried about the flat and unmoved tone in his voice as he recounts the details almost like he's reporting on his day at school.

"Ah. I... see."

Well, that's a new one for him. He and Holmes had had some shady clients, to be sure, but at least none of them had actively attempted to blow them up directly. "I'm glad that turned out well for you. I say, you're rather a cool hand about it, lad. Do things like that happen to you... often?"

Because he's an adult, and he can run around having dangerous adventures all he wants. Conan is a child.

Conan pauses to think about the question and considers how best to answer that.

"I guess it happens with some frequency." He finally decides, his tone far more contemplative than upset.

"But everything usually turns out okay." He assures the man.
