Maximilien is still unsure what the big deal is when it comes to birthdays - just another year come and gone. But after the shitstorm that was a second year on the ship, not to mention the excursion they just got back from, he could use a day to just relax and not think about anyone else but himself and the two people he actually likes ... and one person he sorta tolerates due to proximity.

He has pulled the cushioned massage chairs in front of the big window that faces the water, and has Jinx's machine gun sitting by his side should anyone else show up and try to ruin this by existing at them.

All three of them will get the same text: I think we could all use some relaxation after recent events. I've commandeered the spa for our private use if you care to join me.

Meaning that he is fully ready (and excited) to shoot anyone who isn't them that shows up. Max is currently lounging with his feet kicked up and hands folded across his stomach - he's never been any good at relaxing, it's high time to try and fix that.

"I think... an aspect of yourself you're looking to improve upon. But setting a realistic goal, so you don't give it up immediately. But since you're already perfect..."

Internally groaning as he hands over the oil. They would be sickeningly sweet wouldn't they?

"The idea is to make the future year better than the last - so whatever would accomplish that goal. Downgrading to simply leaving conversations with people who aren't actually listening. A huge percentage of this ship honestly."

From over in his comfortable chair (thank god it isn't like the ones he keeps back home!):

"Don't you already do that?"

"So are you," he says, leaning in to kiss Ava (because he knows how much it will annoy Max.)

"If he did," he quips at Skulduggery, "He would hardly talk to anyone at all." Which might be exactly to Max's liking. Who can say?

"Mm. If it's about self-improvement, I suppose I could resolve to regain some of the fitness I love in The Village." Going upstairs makes him feel winded now.

The kiss prevents her from arguing and is kept short and sweet as not to cause further suffering of the birthday gentlemen. But she does continue the display of affection by applying the oil to her hands and up her arms, and then grabbing 6's to rub in the excess over his knuckles and between all his fingers.

She laughs softly. "I do think that's the point." Nobody goes out of their way to talk to Maximilien, which means more for her.

She does look slightly concerned at the verbalization of the effects of three weeks of confinement and torture had on his body. She's kindly not called out the weight loss or his lack of strength and stamina, wanting to help him mentally and emotionally recover first. But maybe that would help, something more tangible that he can measure the improvements and overcome what was done to him.

"Yeah. I'll go with you." A pause, as she rethinks the implications to her sleep schedule. "Just shake me awake."

Wow he organized this party and honestly he's feeling so attacked right now. "Yes yes, of course. But saying it out loud is what makes it a resolution."

But onto other things, "See, that's a good one. Tangible. Attainable. And would also serve to mark the passage of time, instead of all the days blending together as they do."

"Very well. I suppose the fact that you are not resolving to end this conversation is a point in my favor?" He is attacking you right now.

"Yes, I think that one will do for me. I will be delighted to wake you for it in the morning, Pumpkin."

He knows they're doing the pet name thing to annoy him and now he's doubly annoyed because it's working.

He's radiating smugness. What do you know, he's actually having a pretty good time here.
