MARCH OPEN LOG
[a soft chime of unplaceable music at 7 AM sharp. Friday's voice going over the daily weather (it never changes) and the daily schedule (it barely varies, though Friday does mention a "welcome party" set for later in the month with increasing amounts of poorly restrained glee. the mic is passed so that the captain can make his usual announcement. after a minute, it is passed back, so that Friday can wish everyone a fun and fulfilling day.
it's easy to fall into routine, on the serena eterna.
the spirits, or whatever they are, seem to have calmed down. they are still there, of course, but the plates are carried to tables instead of thrown, and any movement of the furniture is the kind that comes from normal use. wonder what they were so upset about. maybe someone talked to them.
an unfamiliar face in the hall balks at how their legs stop working suddenly. new passengers seem to arrive every other day or so, and it's always the same exact process. did you keep your lei?
the sun is shining. the air is warm. the sea is placid as a lake. you never meant to end up here. you certainly don't want to be here.
but, you can try to make the best of it.]

hello I am here to make ur inbox worse. also photos
Attention span, though? Maybe... less great. He is almost immediately pulled from all his thoughts at the sound of someone else's voice, like suddenly all the little gears in his head had shifted from exploration mode to polite and friendly mode. Not much unlike Ebalon, in a sense, with the only difference probably being that... Mizuki's is genuine.
He's unable to even utter a "Hello," though, because he's already being asked about the photos... ]
...Painting? [ Is... is it a painting? No way, right? That's way too realistic to be a painting. He knows some people are really talented, but...!! ] Oh, uh-- no, it's nothing like that. I mean... why they wouldn't just take a picture?
[ ...Ah, but, he's met so many people on board who didn't even know what video games were. Maybe this guy's the same...? ]
...Have you... seen a camera before?
hello welcome to my inbox :3c
...I'm afraid not. Is this a recent invention?
[Something made with magitech to produce high-quality images like this, perhaps? Inferring based on circumstance, anyway. Ebalon taps his chin thoughtfully. So many technological marvels aboard this ship; he'll have to see if he can find this "camera" and take it apart to learn how it works.
They gave him a phone, so he's going to inevitably take that apart too.]
I'll make myself cozy in here
I think I have one... hold on. [ He rummages around in his bag for a moment, muttering a few "no"s, until finally there's an "Oh! This'll work!" and procuring whatever the non-copyrighted equivalence of a 3DS is. ]
Ah, this isn't a proper camera, but it has one in it. Hold on... [ He taps the screen for a moment, then happily snaps a picture of Ebalon and hands his device over, turning the 3D slider off for now. Let's not totally overwhelm Ebalon. ] See? The images are instance because the little device inside captures the colors and things through the lens.

What?
He steps a bit closer to Mizuki to see the screen and has the immediate thought that he Must find a device like this and take it apart to see how it works. He won't ask Mizuki for this one, though.]
I see. So, what you're saying is that a camera — as a device — can exist within another device, such as... that. Furthermore, that cameras instantly take images rather than having to pose for a painting for hours...
[Fascinating.]
no subject
Exactly that. Actually, these days, a lot of people prefer to have one device to handle a good bulk of their tools. Camera, music, games, flashlight... most of the things you would want on a day-to-day basis.
I'm not really well versed on the science behind cameras, but I know there are a ton of different kinds. [ Mizuki points to the pictures taken. ] These are probably polaroids, for example. It comes from a camera that will instantly... uh- produce these sort of... papery images. [ He's trying his best to use terms that aren't... super confusing. He doesn't feel like he's doing a very good job, though. ]
If you'd like, maybe we can see if we can find you a polaroid camera? There were a few shops and such... and if they're gonna hang these up, we might find one.
no subject
[Because, yeah, with this little device, it doesn't seem to be able to... print anything? Hm. Ebalon stares at the photographs in the display case for a touch longer, looking thoughtful, before he nods once.]
Very well. I did pass by some shops on my way here, though I did not bother to poke my head into them.
[Normal people from camera-having worlds would assume that vacation spots like this one obviously have polaroid cameras or something equivalent to it — tourists must take photographs, it's very important! Ebalon, who is not a normal person from a normal world, has no such thought in his mind as he spins on his heel and makes for the shops.]
no subject
I don't blame you for being distracted, but if we're going to be here a while, it'll be fun to learn about some new things, right? Absorbing and digesting information is just as important as food in my opinion. [ And, here, he'll offer a hand out for Ebalon. An unnecessary gesture, probably, but Mizuki's just used to doing it. ] I can walk there with you.
no subject
[But, ah, the hand being held out to him gets him to stop dead and just... stare at it, like he doesn't quite understand at first. When it becomes clear that he's registered what exactly is being offered, Ebalon finally reaches a hand out — sure, he'll play along. A bit of a childish gesture, he thinks, but nothing terrible.]
no subject
Ah, researching? Are you a scientist or something like that? Anything specific, or do you just like learning in general?
no subject
[He's curious to a fault, but not entirely for good, pure, wholesome reasons. Perhaps curiosity in and of itself is somewhat pure-hearted in its intent, but alas.]
Where I come from, we lack certain technologies, such as those... what are they, televisions? I don't see the purpose in them.
[Probably because none of the televisions in the cabins actually work right?]
no subject
[ He assumes that's kind of the point of everyone having their own mindset and thoughts and purpose, but for someone like Mizuki, it's a very strange concept to actually grasp. Individuality is odd. ]
Ah, the televisions on this ship are probably super uninteresting, for sure. But, uh, they're supposed to be able to show you... movies and shows and stuff. Which are, um... [ He ponders this for a moment. ] Like... theater? But on a screen, recorded with camera, but instead of capturing a single still image, it captures movement and sound. So, uh, "entertainment" is the short answer.
[ Obviously, this is a very elementary explanation of how televisions work. He's not even sure how he's supposed to explain anime to Ebalon?? Seems like a lot of work. ]
