The set up is not much different from last time, with food and drinks set up at tables on the side of the stage that can be rearranged for when it's time to do something more creative. The difference a prop wall has been pulled onto to the stage, proudly displaying everyone's flags.

Grab a drink and some food and be ready to reconnect with your marvelous mates!

Ah. [That. Is. Unfortunate. His desire to info-dump is outweighed by the understanding that Stede would probably collapse into a black hole of despair like almost everyone else has.]

Well, I've been giving it a lot of thought, myself. I think I'd like to find an Earth living through the 80s again, but without the... mmmm, hmm. Troubles. [LITERALLY.] Or, maybe one of the magically dominated realities. I probably wouldn't have to disguise myself if I went that route...

Which 80s? [there are a lot of them after all and a lot of them with troubles]

Hopefully we'll all get out of here so you can...attain it. [though what he's going to do about Hiram was anyone's guess]

Maybe you can even take Hiram with him. Show him the shining splendid world, and all its wonders on... on a... a magic carpet ride or something like that.

Well, I was thinking the 1980s... but maybe experiencing the 1780s would be nice. [Especially if there was no secret magical war going on. And this time, he'd be alive...]

If he'd want that, absolutely. [As if anyone is getting the Captain away from this ship...] But he'll need to figure that out for himself. [...] Did you... hear that saying somewhere?

Couldn't speak for either of those sadly. Why not go to the time with the dinosaurs in that park or whatever it was? That might be fun.

[he sighs a little at the mention of the captain] Yes, I suppose he must. I suppose we all do. And... no, not especially. Why?

I think I'd need more people around than the Jurassic period would provide. Maybe a world with a Jurassic Park...

[That would be fun, actually. Okay, that's on the list.]

Oh, no reason. It just reminded me of a... traditional children's song. [Hehehehe, Disney.] At any rate, you're right. We're all going to have to make choices about what sort of freedom we want.

That's what I mean. And maybe there is. I mean I know it's just a fantasy but- you never know what's right around the corner. Greek heroes. Gods. Ambulatory skeletons with a killer fashion sense.

Huh. [it's not a children's song he's heard of but the world and future so vast. The last statement is interesting. He knows what he wants. He's always known. Whether he deserves it or can accomplish it is something else alogether, but...]

What does that freedom look like for you?

[He accepts that compliment with a nod and faint chuckle.]

I think you'll find that every fiction you could dream of is based on some reality or another. [That's what he's come to realize after seeing Ava's alternate self in comic form. Every reality is probably somebody else's fiction.]

...It's peaceful. Quiet. And I have far fewer responsibilities than I do now.

Maybe even this weak and idle theme is no more yielding than a dream. [a faint smile]

What a lovely freedom. I hope you can achieve it. You certainly deserve it and if there's anything I can do to help you, let me know. Happiness is a good look on you.

Happiness is a better look on people with faces, but I do appreciate your meaning. [And now to utilize his newfound knowledge of friendship and... ask about somebody else for a change!] How are you doing, by the way? Not with the crew, just. In general.

I'd disagree. [He's seen happiness and fear in someone that had no face at all]

Oh... [he sighs] Not great to be honest. [and then...he really doesn't want to know, honestly, but is driven to ask]

Listen...be honest- as honest as you can. Am...am I a joke?

[Skulduggery doesn't rush to placate Stede's question, instead taking a moment to consider the answer. Considering he's only ever honest with Stede about these kinds of matters, he doesn't see any reason to start lying now.]

Not by me, no. I appreciate what you try to do for the passengers, and what you want to accomplish with the crew. Others may find it hard to take you seriously, but I don't know if they'd go so far as to call you a joke. Unfortunately, the gentlemanly habits of your time have... taken on softer meaning in contemporary eyes, and too many people here are too used to brutality to comprehend someone with a lighter touch.

Well, it was soft then too. And all this... it's like a mummers farce, you know. If I'm honest, not all of this is the real me. Not that the real me is much better.

It's strange you know that people never really change. Past...present... future... People are the same wherever you go. [which is both a blessing and a curse]

[Truly a common refrain amongst his friends here. Back home, nobody would have questioned his single-minded obsessive nature, even if they did try to distract him from time to time.]
