I Could Use A Vacation (Open)

Who: Lloyd Henreid and you!
What: Just doing a few intro threads for Lloyd -- TDM threads can be continued if wanted.
When: Shortly after his arrival
Where: The halls, the decks, (cabin thread for new roomie), the buffet, and if you decide you want to drag him somewhere fun, he is an easy guy!
Warnings: General awkward, cw: for death and disease mention if any subjects regarding where he was come up, will update if any new ones crop up!

I. Pleased To Meet You I Absolutely Did Not Eat My Last Roommate (Cabin Meeting, Closed)

After a little wine (only like half of two bottles it's fine), Lloyd Henreid feels much more relaxed after the lifeboat drill with the very nice if faceless woman (which we don't talk about -- aside from being unsettling he cannot get past the feeling that it would be rude to talk about). This is especially important when told he will be rooming with someone in his cabin. Which...okay now that he is getting back to it, that wine feels a lot less good in his stomach as his mind shoots back to the last situation where he had an assigned room and "roomie." He looks a little green, even, when he opens the door and expects to see a bunk, a toilet, maybe a guy with a newspaper telling him to call him "Gorgeous," and that's it.

Fuck where is he and what is he about to get into?

II. I'm the Type of Guy That Likes to Roam Around (Hallways, Decks, Open)

It's not a prison. There's that. The cabin door opens when he wants it to, just like at the Inferno. And it SHOULD feel small; he saw it himself. He's on a boat. But it still FEELS huge, such that Lloyd has to make it his personal mission to roam as much of the place as he can, figure out where things are, where he's allowed to go, just to get it in his head how much of the ship there is.

He's never been on a cruise before, so he has no idea how big they're supposed to be. But anything that Sandra Bullock (or a T-Rex) can drive into an unsuspecting dock can't be that huge while still being huge. But this place? Way bigger than he is expecting.

So you can find this well-dressed young fella casually wandering both on deck and inside, taking in the sights he can in that way that only very new people seem to have when exploring. Sometimes uncertain he's somewhere he is supposed to be but in general just rather okay with being there and what he is finding.

III. Something Punny About Food Here (The Buffet, Open)

There was a meal time set for him with his cabin assignment, but as soon as he heard there was a buffet, he made a beeline for that, and it is not hard to find him in there several times over the ensuing days, filling his plate with everything his heart desires or secretly missed and possibly even going back for seconds and then desserts. He has the manner of someone who has either never had food this fancy before in his life and is living it up in the short time it will take to get sick of it, or has for some other reason to know food scarcity, and likely recently. The fact that you might catch him squirreling something away at the end of it to take back to his room will only add to that feeling.

He is eating like he is not expecting it to last.

IV. Anything That Doesn't Fall into the Above (WILDCARD, Open)

Any agreed upon threads from IM or plurks, suggested open areas he is likely to pop into just via exploration, or continued TDM threads! All those live under this heading!

What lies beyond the door of cabin 144 isn't a prison cell, at least not in the conventional sense. It's closer to a small hotel room, with a large bed, a couch, a desk, several potted plants scattered around (the smallest one is a twig with a leaf or two, sitting in a glass of water on the desk), and a blocky metal humanoid watering one of the plants out of another drinking glass.

They turn to look at the human, who appears unfamiliar and mildly ill. Probably seasick or intoxicated or both. Given that their only facial feature is a glowing blue rectangle it's hard to read their expression, but they awkwardly hold onto the mostly-emptied glass for a startled moment before setting it down and waving. They only have one hand, so they can't do both at once.

// Hello. Are we cabinmates? Probably, but he might have been assigned to the adjacent or opposite room. They haven't tested whether the doors lock automatically or tried to do so manually.

// Yes. What's your name? The human looks more disoriented but less nauseous now. Not angry or frightened, just startled and confused, so it's likely that he's from one of those historical worlds that haven't invented anything similar to omnics yet.

// What year is it for you? I'm from 2077.

They save Lloyd's name to long-term storage, together with his face and year of origin. It's far enough back that he could be from their past, hypothetically.

// You can have the bed. I don't need to recline to charge.

Bastion shrugs their shoulders. // I haven't been inside any other cabins.

Thinking about it, though... // The captain feeds on emotions, so bed occupancy disputes might fit with that?

// Feeds on emotions, they repeat. // Literally uses them for power, although I don't know the mechanics involved.

// It is fucked. Bastion nods. This conversation is grim and it's only going to get grimmer.

// Not sick as far as I know, but it's likely connected to the passenger disappearances. I had a different cabinmate before you. They haven't confirmed that and they're not sure how they would, but it's an obvious inference.

// Most disappearances happen within the first 24 hours of boarding. I don't have enough data to identify warning signs of an impending disappearance after that. They haven't been here all that long themself.

// I'm uncertain. The ship is full of barely-visible apparitions, so you might turn into that. And the occasional mirror ghost, like the one that tried to pull them inside a pane of glass on their first day here.

// It's probably closer to the second one. That's just a guess, though; the more they think about it, the more information they realise they don't have about what really happens to the missing passengers. They don't know if anyone's reappeared later or what they might have experienced in that interval if so, they just know it hasn't happened to anyone they've talked to, which is a pretty small pool of individuals.

Bastion emits a drawn-out disquieted hum of their own. It's less that the human's anxiety is getting to them (not that that's helping) and more that relaying what they know means they have to think about how precarious their and everyone's existence is on this ship, how little control they have over whether they'll make it to another day. // There might be preventative methods. I don't know either way.

Well, there's one risk factor they can definitely warn him about. // Don't stand near mirrors if the reflection isn't accurate for the room. If a ghost pulls you in, it causes an energy drain severe enough to temporarily lose function in the affected area.

// That's fine. Whether he means disappearing to parts unknown or just leaving the cabin, they don't mind having him around.

Changing the subject would probably help at this point, yeah. They nod to Lloyd's request. // I've been here for approximately two months, so I can maybe help with the normal shit.

// Me neither. There's probably cruises that allow omnics, they say with the clear implication that human-only would be the default, // but only civilian models, not military ones like me.

Finding the money to pay for it would be a minor problem in comparison to the difficulties going out in public when your entire production line was supposed to be scrapped and discontinued years ago. They don't have much money of their own either, though.

// Omnics, they say, making the audio as clear a reflection of the pronunciation as possible. // The first ones were built by the Omnica Corporation and the name stuck.

// Correct. Or at least it's the closest they've got and finding a new one isn't a priority. It sounds more like a human name than E54, and their manufacturer-assigned individual serial number would make an awful name for several reasons.

// It's my model name, specifically. I'm a Bastion unit. A bit like a human going by their surname instead of their given name, at least insofar as there are (or were) a lot of similar-looking people with the same name.
