[He pauses the movie just as Alan Rickman cuts off an alien attempting to say "By Grabthar's Hammer." So far it seemed mild enough, but Natsuno isn't sure if the rest of it is child-friendly. He rifles through the pile of DVDs on the deck next to him.]
I don't have the second one, but I have... "Pokémon the First Movie."
[He's before Pokémon time, and it's a cartoon, so he hardly bothered to give the case a second look. If Fio is around, though... a dumb cartoon should work just as well to numb his brain.]
[ For a moment, her gaze lingers on the paused footage. What is this...? Well, she doesn't really need to know. More importantly: Natsuno has a Pokémon movie. Fio's from some sort of medieval time fantasy Earth and only recently, she's learned about Pokémon and shows on television.
She isn't going to understand the backstory of the movie when she hasn't seen a single episode. Still, a colorful cartoon with cute little monsters should be distracting enough that she might not bother paying too much to the actual storyline.
She tucks her legs in, trying to get comfortable in her seat. ]
[Natsuno nods and gets up to change the movie. Galaxy Quest will wait, they've got nothing but time here, at least until the ship falls apart completely and they all starve and nope, he's cutting off this line of thinking right now.
He's surprised to find two movies on the menu, and picks the short one first. Colorful, adorable monsters run around on the screen, but Natsuno's eyes glaze over into the first two minutes of Pikachu's Vacation. Hopefully Fio likes it...]
[ Two minutes in, Fio's sitting up straight, leaning forward in her seat. Even little monsters go on a vacation? Why are they on vacation? She doesn't worry hard over the reasons. She's already enjoying it because of how cute the critters look and the upbeat music.
Turning her head, like she really has to make sure that Natsuno's paying attention. ]
Yuuyu! It's Pikachu! That's Pikachu!
[ Of course. It's even saying "Pikachu!" and everything. ]
My favorite? Um... I don't know... but I like Pikachu! Pikachu's really cute!
[ Well, now she does. She doesn't know if she has a favorite... yet. But all of them so far seem so cute. It's the first that she's ever seen any of the creatures animated and moving. She liked looking at Pratt's colorful drawings, but it's even better seeing everything talk and move!
Then there's a roar coming from the audio. Oh, it's Charizard. ]
[Natsuno's current favorite is the cat creature. For start, it can say more than its own dumb name, and he just want to nap in peace without being disturbed by noisy idiots. Natsuno can relate.]
It sure looks like a big lizard.
[Well, dragon, but something that just got its head stuck in a pipe doesn't deserve a cool title like "dragon."]
You don't have these in your reality, right? Who told you about "pokemom?"
[ Fio's gaze is back towards the screen, unable to tear her eyes away, laughing in delight at the silly dragon onscreen. For a moment, she almost forgets to answer him. ]
Hm? [ She looks back at Natsuno in confusion. Oh, he was asking a question. Shaking her head. Her reality isn't nearly as bright and colorful as this. Or fun, happy... ] No... it's not as fun where I'm from. Pratt told me about them! He said the Captain has Pokémon cards...
[He meant to ask if her reality doesn't have cartoons, but she made it depressing. Poor girl, taken from who knows what horrors to this insane ship.]
Oh. Pratt and I are from similar realities, but he's years ahead of me. Guess Pokémon is after my time. [Pause.] You're not gonna try playing cards with the captain, right.
[ Her shoulders tense up instantly, then she shakes her head aggressively. She's still very, very afraid of the Captain. She imagines he would turn a game of Pokémon cards easily into a death game. ]
[ ...An obedient nod, as she gives her plush bear a tight squeeze. With that, she doesn't mention another word about the Captain. Another movie could be fun. It's still a new experience for her, after all. And it's a nice distraction from the ship's concerning lack of repairs. ]
...Uh-huh. I'm not tired yet. And I wanna watch more...

It sure is a pika-pi, Pikachu. Is their names all they can say? Talk about annoying.]
I see that. Is Pikachu your favorite? I thought you wanted to see "Charizard."

No, I... I don't think I should.

You definitely shouldn't. [...] Sorry, we can stop talking about the captain. Do you want to watch the other movie? It's longer.
