- [ There's excitement in the air! A package with Eddie's name on it is apparently waiting for him, and even though he is absolutely expecting the worst, he still bursts in with a flourish of unmitigated energy. Which he tries to stamp down, lest he gets his hopes up, but after waiting patiently in line, his package is presented to him in all its glory.
It's pretty obvious what it is, even without unwrapping it, but that doesn't stop the excitement with which Eddie tears the wrapping paper off to reveal his guitar, his pride and joy, his sweetheart. ]
Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit! [ Anyone within earshot will hear Eddie's excited cry as he hugs that damn guitar to his chest, practically dancing around the store with it. And, without watching where he's going, he spins to dart right out the exit and towards the theater to try it out --
and stumbling right into some poor soul who probably thought they were just going to run in, grab whatever it is they needed at All and Sundries, and leave. ] Uh, sorry, sorry, just, kind of in a hurry here. [ He gestures to the guitar which he is now strapping to his back for safe keeping. ]

- [ It seems the theater is becoming a frequent haunt for Eddie, but now he has yet another reason to visit. It's weird being on a stage again, with his guitar strapped across his chest, but it's even weirder without a band behind him.
Still, that doesn't stop him from playing.
He starts with a few warm ups, because it feels like it's been too long. Then he slips into a familiar song, one that he spent way, way too long practicing until it had been eventually unleashed on the Upside Down. It seems fitting that the song that had lured a bunch of bats away from the Creel House would be the first song Eddie plays on his guitar once more. Almost like he's picking up where he left off.
If he notices that there's an audience, he might take requests. But don't be surprised if he doesn't know most of them, especially if they were released after 1986.
Of course, if a recording is available, Eddie just might learn it by ear, if one were to ask nicely. ]
3. this is the place (playback) - closed to Chrissy
- [ Now in much better spirits with the return of his guitar, he's finding himself a lot less closed off. He hadn't meant to, but after their run-in at the Infinite Spirit Halloween, he had kind of been not going entirely out of his way to run into Chrissy.
That's not to say he was avoiding her, just.
He didn't want to be a constant reminder for her, just as she was sometimes for him. But he's finding it a little bit easier to cope, so he's hopeful that maybe it's the same for her. And it's entirely possible she had managed to adjust a lot faster than he did and he had been inadvertently avoidant for nothing.
He shoots off a quick message to her, asking if she wants to meet up at the arcade, because it seems like a good place to meet, nice and casual and with the excuse of messing around with some of the games while he waited so he doesn't have to be standing around like a fool. Should Chrissy choose to meet up with him, she might find him at the skee ball machines, just messing around since he has no notion of actually beating the high score. ]
4. shine love glow (sand dollars) - closed to Steve
- [ There are only so many places that two underage teenagers can hang out on this godforsaken vessel (so much for a fake ID) but Eddie is determined to have as close to a normal experience as he can muster. And, okay, he's not really one to actually go on dates, usually, but when in Rome, right?
Forget about the fact that this is very much not Rome, or anywhere near close to it. Still, the mere fact that they're not in Hawkins, and can actually do something like this without fear of getting harassed...it's nice. And Eddie's going to take advantage of the very obvious privilege they have by milking it while they can.
So, yes, he's not exactly dressed the way he would normally be, but it's the best he can do with his limited resources. His hair is partially pulled up into a half-ponytail and he's managed to cut the sleeves off one of the Tommy Bahama flannels to create something of a vest, and while he's still mourning the loss of his Hellfire shirt, he at least feels a little closer to himself (thanks in small part to the return of his guitar, now sitting back in his cabin where he hopes it will be safe until he can return to it).
He's sitting at a table in Sand Dollars, because coffee and tiny pastries seems pretty damn good for a first "real" date, and because it's gotta be pretty hard for the ship to manage to screw this up. That isn't to say Eddie hasn't already come up with a multitude of scenarios in which this date could go wrong.
Still, that hasn't stopped him from messaging Steve and asking if he wants to meet him for coffee.
On a date.
Oh yeah, he's doing great at this so far.
And now, he just has to hope that his nerves don't get the better of him as he's tapping out a rhythm with his rings banging against the table while waiting for Steve to arrive and put him out of his misery. ]

The applause from the orchestra pit, though, draws him out of his music-induced stupor, and he jumps, his face eventually settling into a grin as he recognizes Erin immediately. "Hey! Thanks, I'm a bit out of practice, but I guess it's just like riding a bicycle." He's actually pretty impressed with himself, with how quickly he had been able to pick the song back up again.

The amp doesn't seem to be plugged into anything, but Erin hooks the hurdy-gurdy up to it anyway and settles in her seat before beckoning Eddie over to flip open the cover and show him the way the keys connect to the hammers.
"It's not exactly a one-man band, but the cover can be used for percussive sounds in addition to everything the wheel's doing or not doing, the external strings...it's not an efficient design, exactly, but this baby's more instruments than it looks like." Erin pauses, thoughtfully. "...Odd, isn't it? When it comes to weapons or like, tools, right, the more things it's trying to be the worse it is at all of them. Like a multitool is kinda a shit knife and kinda a shit set of pliers and kinda a shit screwdriver but it's all of 'em. But this here isn't a bunch of other shit instruments, it's...itself. Different from the sum of its parts."

There isn't much time to dwell on this before Erin is showing him the instrument, and he studies it with fascination in his eyes. He's always wondered how they worked, only hearing the sounds it makes.
"Odd, but interesting." Eddie agrees with a shrug. He isn't very knowledgeable about weapons in general, but he can understand that notion, that sometimes it's better to be really good at one thing than just okay at a bunch of things. Which is starting to feel a little too introspective, so he tries to focus back on the hurdy gurdy itself.
"Did you name her?" He runs his fingers across the strings on the fret of his guitar. "This here's my best girl, named her Penelope--" He pauses, a sad, almost nostalgic look in his eyes. "After my mom."

Erin sighs, wistful and sad. "I think I'll call her Circe. The sea witch."

"Well, hey, I happen to be a giant nerd still." He manages a smile, which only grows brighter when she announces the name she's gone with. "Circe! Odysseus visited her and she turned all his crew into pigs, yeah?" He pauses, smirking to himself. "Honestly, good for her."

It's sarcasm, yes, but it comes from a place of love.

"Yeah, well. He has a way with languages, what can I say?" There had been a time when Eddie had wanted to write anything half as good as The Lord of the Rings, but clearly that time has since passed. Then again, they apparently have nothing but time here, maybe he can write something even if it's just the passengers that would be reading it.

Erin pauses. "You know the library has some stuff from one of his college students? She was like the sole reason he couldn't fuck off to write while still getting paid."
no subject
"Wait, seriously?" Eddie raises an eyebrow in intrigue. "I might have to read those."

CW Satanic Panic
cw continuing the satanic panic discussion, brief implication of body horror
"It's funny, you read about it in a newspaper, and it feels like you're so removed from it until you happen to witness a couple people get brutally murdered and suddenly it's time to hunt the freak. Because clearly there's no other explanation for how a girl could wind up in my trailer looking like a --." He cuts himself off, brings his fist up to his mouth, teeth biting gently down on his knuckles.

"You got that right. Apparently I was a vessel for him. Me." He sighs, looks down at his guitar. "Kind of would have liked to have magic, though. Maybe I would've survived." And then would have been burned at the stake, probably, but maybe he would have gotten away. And not have met Steve under these circumstances, but he tries not to think too hard about that.
