She's passed the word quietly, asked others to do the same. Been as careful as possible not to let the word spread any further. With no other good options presenting themselves, she's asked Lieutenant Tayrey to host the meeting in her cabin.

It's been just over a month since they last met on the subject. Time and past to reconvene.

“I would agree with that assessment,” Dedue says. “Moreover, if his preferred passengers ever do something that displeases him, his attitude may change once more.”

"Agreed," Pal says grimly. "And the reverse may happen--if he decides he needs to protect his preferred passengers, his cruelty towards the rest of us may redouble. Either way, I believe his new affections make him more dangerous, not less."

He offers Peter a faint nod. "Thank you for trusting us with your own speculation, and for listening to ours."

"It does make him dangerous, yes, but it also gives him something else to lose." Something to care about is something to exploit.

He nods back, solemn. "Thank you for allowing me to be here to speak to my own perspective. It is my sincere wish that we not divide ourselves. Though we may differ in our approach and we have reasons to be mistrustful of one another, we are far more likely to succeed if we join as one."

"Ah, but what does success mean, Mr. Smith?" Palamedes asks with a philosophical sort of air. "I believe the answers differ wildly, both within this room and without it. And that is where our true divisions lie."

Cassandra speaks up. "And what do you see as the range of differing answers, Master Warden?"

"She raises a good point," Number 6 chimes in. "And I will raise another. What constitutes a failure? I'd wager the answer varies as well. Perhaps not as much, but enough to make it worth consideration."

"Oh, the definitions of failure vary almost as much as the definitions of success, no doubt," says Palamedes, inclining his head in appreciation of Peter's point. "I believe there are some that would deem our efforts a success if we remained trapped on the ship, but no longer suffer physically. Others would, I suspect, take the route that Pirate Jenny once did: escape the Captain's pocket universe at any cost. Some of us are desperate to find a way home. Others want revenge." He spreads his hands. "I am not saying we cannot be allies--quite the opposite. But we are a coalition of different desires, some of which are mutually exclusive, and it does us no good to ignore that."

Turning to the rest of the room: "Let's clarify this point. Are there any of us in this room who would be satisfied with remaining trapped on the ship, if we no longer suffer physically? I'm inclined to doubt it, but I may be wrong."

Not in the slightest. That's failure.

Success for me is finding my way home. Escaping this bubble universe is a necessary first step. If we manage that, those who are satisfied there can rest easy, while those who want to go home can keep going.

[Whether the captain lives or dies, is imprisoned or ignored, truly doesn't matter to her so long as her objective is fulfilled.]

"I will not be satisfied to live out the rest of my days here, no," he answers Cassandra.

"I might be satisfied to go to some other place, to live beside those who have no strong desire to return to their own worlds. That, and the release of the trapped souls here, would constitute enough of a success for me. And, if that is something we can either convince the Captain to give willingly or bargain for, it would be enough. I want freedom, not revenge."
