What's a cat girl troll to do on a cursed cruise ship? Well, quite a lot of things in fact.

1. just cat things

a) The weather is pretty much always sunny on the Serena Eterna, which means plenty of sunbeams to nap in. On any given day you might spot Nepeta contentedly basking on one of the outer decks -- possibly sprawled out right where you were hoping to walk. You couldn't possibly wake her though, could you? Look how cute she is.

b) At other times, you might find her chasing a crumpled paper ball or a small stuffed plush toy down one of the halls, batting it ahead of her and then pouncing on it as it slides across the floor. Or perhaps perched somewhere high up to watch people go by. (How did she even get up there?)

2. just girl things

a) There are art books in the library now! Nepeta's going through them one at a time, admiring and occasionally attempting to copy the contents with her own set of crayons. She is not doodling additions to the pictures, despite being very tempted.

b) Oh and there's a training dummy! Always an excellent thing for keeping in practice, especially when there's nothing to hunt. Chasing crumpled paper is fun, sure, but sometimes you want something closer to your own size to practice pouncing and clawing and otherwise attempting to murder. The fact that it's unbreakable is just a bonus, really; it means she can go all-out. (Which might be a little terrifying to watch if you haven't seen her in combat before.)

c) She's also got some handicrafts to work on, in her spare time. Which is to say, there's a whole bunch of horse leg bones, brought back from the last excursion by Siffleur. Right now she's got the lot spread out on a table in the library, deciding what to make from them. Feel free to offer suggestions, or horrified commentary, or whatever else seems likely.

3. just troll things

a) Sometimes Nepeta might take advantage of the broad tables in the formal dining room, especially since nobody's using it for formal dining anymore, and spread out some sketches of potential updates to her shipping wall. Generally she'll try to do this when there's no one else around, but she might not notice you? Or she might ask for suggestions.

b) Are those flowers starting to sprout around the ship? They don't look like anything that grows on Alternia, and Nepeta's never seen any Earth vegetation close up. This calls for investigation! Starting with that pretty bright orange one ...

[Unaware that lilies can be very dangerous for cats, Nepeta is sniffing an orange lily and will fall desperately in hate with somebody. Maybe several somebodies. Maybe you! If that doesn't sound like fun, you might come upon Nepeta after she's been sniffing at the ivy, and find her to be compulsively cuddly in catlike fashion. Over the course of the month, further flower shenanigans may be added.]

Cheerfully: "Oh, it always is! And this isn't even including meowst of the options, only the ones where something's already happurrning. I thought about making a grid of pawssibilities like I used to fur my friends, but there's too many people here, it would have to be huge."

"Ah. Do you tend to cultivate these connections, or just jump at the opportunities when they arise?"

Darnit I think he's more convinced this is about demon bargains now.

She tilts her head and scrunches her nose slightly, a little confused by the question.

"Cultivate? Like ... encourage things to happen if they aren't already?"

[freedomsuitsme]

"Precisely. Do you take any action to encourage these connections? Or is it simply your job to chronicle them?"

[nepetaleijon]

Giggling: "Oh, it isn't my job or anything, just a fun hobby! And no, I nefur really do anything to try to get people together -- it's more fun to watch."

[freedomsuitsme]

"I see. So you just... observe." He trails off for a moment, taking in the diagram in front of him. My, it seems like Max Maximum makes a lot of pacts. Maxwell wonders privately if that's a side-effect of being employed by a vampire, in the same way he has a fondness for deals due to his time as Their King.

[nepetaleijon]

"Yeah, observe and make notes. Sometimes back home I used to make up stories about what might happen, but there's too much really happening here! If I tried making things up I'd never have time to s33 efurything."

"Interesting. Is this something done commonly, or is this practice something you are distinctly known for?"

[nepetaleijon]

"I ... guess it's something I'm known for? To my friends, anyway."

Even those who only vaguely fall into the category of friend, like a certain seadwweller whom it's still kind of hard to think of with the old easy disdain.

“If I might pry… how do social circles tend to work, where you come from? I couldn’t even begin to fathom…”

[nepetaleijon]

"Well ... I guess it's sort of diffurent for everybody? My cave was way off away from the cities and things, so I made most of my friends on the internet."

It's anyone's guess how long this misunderstanding can keep going.

"On the... pardon me, the internet? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the term."

[nepetaleijon]

"... you're not? I thought humans had a purrimitive internet though?"

Well now she's just confused.

"Meowbe you call it something else? It's all the computers linked together so people can talk to each other and send each other pictures and video and things from far away!"

[freedomsuitsme]

"In fairness, I only have a faint idea of what a computer is. They were developed after my time."

[nepetaleijon]

"Oh."

Well, now she's stumped. How do you explain something as basic as a computer?

"... I could show you mine?"

[freedomsuitsme]

"That would be helpful, honestl- wait. Are the unbreakable rectangles computers?"

[nepetaleijon]

"Sort of! They're more like phones, only they don't really do very much of what phones should do. But a good phone is kind of like a computer you can keep in your pocket!"

Alternia may have once had rotary phones and land lines, but who even knows, honestly.

[freedomsuitsme]

"Yes, I was aware of their function as phones. Their messaging system, on the other hand, is that something computers do? The word makes me think of something that would do math.."

[nepetaleijon]

"Oh well sure you could do math with one," she laughs. "But yeah, messaging systems are a really impurrtant part of what computers do! Like I said, that's how I met all my friends back home, on messageboards and things like that."

[freedomsuitsme]

"Messageboards," he repeats. Yet another term he doesn't know, though the name makes it sound as if they might be bulletin boards, but with... computers? How does one check a local notice board with a phone? Do you call the operator and inquire about it, or have someone send you each notice in a 'text message?'

Mind you, he doesn't ask any of these questions, he's kind of embarrassed by how much he doesn't understand what this demon thinks is basic technology.

"Yeah!"

But she isn't sure he's quite getting it, so she offers: "Want to s33 one?"

Maxwell regards the 'demon's' offer with some caution, but nods.

"Alright."

[nepetaleijon]

She tugs out a piece of string, winds it in a complicated pattern around her fingers, and holds out her hands to catch her tablet as it pops out of her sylladex.

"There's no connection here, but I think I purrobably have one or two pages saved ..."

"Hold on, what was that conjuration you just performed?"

[nepetaleijon]

"Hm? Oh! -- no that wasn't a conjuration, just getting my tablet out of my sylladex. I've got a cat's cradle fetch modus, it's kind of annoying but also kind of fun?"

Those sure are words she's saying!
