Grade A Hypocrisy [Library | After the Previous]

Erin keeps coming to the library to read, on the theory that she's definitely not isolating, look, it's a public space. What actually keeps happening is she gets three chapters in and passes out, drooling on the comfy chair. Coffee? No help. Tea? No help. Turning into a toy robot? The toy robot snores and turns back into Erin after an hour, leaving her sprawled on the table.

The Smoking Prompt [Bobby B's]

I'm writing this on a phone, Erin smokes multiple times a day, find her here. She's still drinking pretty heavily too.

It's one of the places she's trying to reclaim and she will be there when they arrive, one of Watson's books open in her lap. She appears far more relaxed than she is.

TO THE LIBRARY

"Well, you heard the woman," Erin says out loud. "If you're getting back on my shoulder do it now, 'cause my hands are about to be full."

He springs back up onto her shoulder, leaving a trail of flour in his wake. He's thoroughly dusted. As soon as he's settled into his preferred spot, he's back to purring up a storm.

Valdis doesn't look up when they arrive, she's still not pleased about this particular scenario.

Sheogorath hops off of Erin's shoulder, bowing in a way that both is very human and yet also seems quite befitting of a cat.

"Ms. Valdis, I presume!"

Mouthing silently: I told you he's a cat.

Cat. Mad God. It's all the same soul, but Valdis inclines her head to be polite.

"Sheogorath, I have to say I like you better in this form."

"I am rather soft and approachable in this state, aren't I?" He seems very pleased with himself, tail held high.

"Now, I've heard you have a little problem I might be able to help with, but it's hardly something to discuss over an empty stomach. Biscuit?"

Almost shyly, Erin sets Valdis's plate in front of her before taking a seat next to her lover. She opens a wing; a silent offer, and a bit of an apology. She knows she brought this upon Valdis, but...

Any port in a storm, maybe.

Valdis shakes her head at his offer of a biscuit, she has no appetite. The books is closed and set aside.

"I think I've have enough people messing with my psyche the last several weeks, don't you, Erin?"

It's perhaps a little cruel to say that so pointedly, but Sheogorath was nowhere near sane and she doesn't need sane people messing with her soul, so insane is definitely out of the question.

"Messing with your psyche? Now, who gave you that idea? Believe me, mor- sorry, force of habit. Believe me, Ms. Valdis, that's rather low on my list of priorities right now. I'm here because I understand that you and I share a rather personal connection, regarding our lives and identities."

"It came up," Erin murmurs. "...and given our interlocutor here it was sorta hard for it not to come up."

"I have very little in common with either you or Tiamat, Sheogorath. You are a god and I hate gods."

Yato was an exception.

"Oh, I completely understand. My husband's not much of a fan either. But... well, take a bite of the biscuit, first, this might be a bit much on an empty stomach. Would you like some butter? Honey packet?"

Her eyes narrow. "Thank you for the offer, but I'm not interested in your biscuits. Just say what you came to say and maybe I will have something to say back."

"Fair enough." He settles into the usual kitty position of a cat that is anchoring itself to its spot.

"I didn't like being a prison for an antagonistic god. I assume you don't like it, either. For ages upon ages, we would rip out of one another and destroy everything the one had built to cover up the works of the other. Our people, our realms, all would be wiped away and ruined as soon as the balance of control shifted. We were both left to mourn, to suffer, in an infinite cycle, futilely trying to stop one another and never succeeding. At least, not until we managed the impossible."

"I found a way to scoot that other god into his own set of bones, and it's not entirely impossible that the same might be possible for you. Or at the very least, I'm willing to do whatever I can to make such an impossibility a reality. Because I've wished plenty of horrible tortures upon the gods that created me to suffer, but I wouldn't wish that particular torment on anyone. Not even them."

"I am sorry for your circumstance, and glad you found a solution, but I am not inclined to leave my fate up to anyone else. My body and soul are mine and I will not subject either to further experimentation."

Something Erin should know.

"Well, it was worth a shot. Glad you at least know you have the option."

He takes a bite of a biscuit, and continues, mouth full.

"You certainly seem a little more sane than when I last saw you."

Which is odd in and of itself.

"Oh, no, I'm not particularly sane. Just speaking to someone who's a little more sane. Or unsane in a different sort of way. I'm a different Sheogorath with everyone I meet, you know."

"Are you calling me insane?"

Or is he speaking of Erin. She won't vouch for Erin's sanity, but she does love the woman.

"I wouldn't make the mistake of calling anyone sane, my dear. It's unfortunately a common misconception that sanity is a far, far more common affliction than it actually is."

Sheo isn't in any way wrong.

"What is sanity except the average of all the insanity."

She does occasionally have a goddess in her head, so sanity is by default out of the question.
