Can't survive on just crabapples [OTA]
Who: Okie and you
What: November catch-all
When: Early to mid month, maybe later
Where: Cabin 126, Windjammer, Chatterbox
1. Frequently, secretly (Closed to Dedue)
Okie has been standing outside of cabin 126 for the last ten minutes. He's nervous. He's been given every assurance that this conversation will go well, but he can only imagine all the ways it won't. But he remembers his Pa's advice; the only cure for indecision is action.
He knocks. "Hey, uh, Dedue? It's Okie. Got a minute?"
2. A boy and his dog
On the first Cowboy Crafts meetup of the month, Okie sets up the usual quilting supplies he usually does, and then disappears for the next hour. When he returns, he has several full laundry bags, which he empties to reveal four dozen assorted stuffed animals from the Build-a-Bear machine. He reaches into the pile, pulls out a dog, and begins to measure out how much fabric it'd take to make it a dress.
3. Karaokie
Okie has learned, over his time here, that when he wants to scream, it's usually better for him to sing instead. So he spends a little over an hour in Chatterbox, singing songs of all different moods.

we're gonna go with this is the official renunion thread
"Holy shit. Bash?"
no subject
Bash is leaning against the door, hands in his pockets, watching Okie with a mild, uncertain look. "You, uh. Roommate, I guess?"
no subject
"Are you, um. You aren't a trick, are ya? I really don't want you to be."
karaokie
It sounds like something Eddie might like, and for some reason it comes as something of a surprise when Steve realizes that the mystery singer is none other than Okie. But maybe that shouldn't be a surprise at all. Either way, Steve sticks around, lingering by the door in case Okie'd rather he go. )
Hey, sorry. Hope you don't mind an audience, ( he says once the song comes to a close. )
no subject
( Bash first, now Steve. Who else is gonna come back? Who else isn't? He doesn't wanna think about it.
How much of what he thinks about Steve comes from when he was here and how much comes from after he lost him? He doesn't wanna think about that either. )
How long you been back?
no subject
( Steve moves closer to the stage and slides into a chair at one of the nearby tables. He leans forward, resting his elbows on the tabletop. )
I hear things haven't gotten any better, ( he says, which might not be the most pleasant subject for a karaoke reunion but it's just about the only one on his mind these past two days. A beat, then: ) Sorry.
( Just, like, in general. Sorry for Okie, sorry for Steve. Sorry for everyone stuck here, and everyone stuck somewhere worse. )
no subject
( It’s surprising how easy it is for him to say that. The excursions are happening more often, and they’re getting more deadly. But he has more friends now than he ever has. That has to count for something, right? )
It’s good to see you again. I’m sorry you’re back.
no subject
It's not that bad.
( An understatement, of course. It's actually very bad to be back, but not as bad a it was being gone. And he'd be lying if he said it wasn't good to see the familiar faces around here. )
But anyway, yeah, it's good to see you too, man. Sorry for crashing the party.
no subject
( He leans against the mic stand like a walking stick. This is a lot to digest, here. )
You missed a fuckin’ lot, man. Whole lotta shit you skipped on.
no subject
( As okay as anyone can here, he hopes. The karaoke is probably a good-ish sign. )
no subject
( Never could figure out how to want to. )
Made new friends at school, got into extracurriculars. Could be a lot worse.

Okie takes his seat on the couch, unbelievably anxious. He's terrified of fucking this up. "No use talkin' 'round it. I like Dimitri. More'n like him. An' I wanna be with him. But..." A deep breath. "I wanna do it the proper way. I wanna ask for your blessing on this. At the end of the day, he's yours. Y'all mean somethin' to each other I never can, an' I don't wanna impose myself somewhere I ain't welcome."

Dedue has seen some of the way Dimitri and Okie interact with each other on the ship, so he figured it would be something to do with Dimitri.
It’s being asked for his blessing that catches him off-guard.
It’s a pleasant surprise, a feeling of pride in his chest, that others would place such honor on his relationship to Dimitri. He wonders if Okie has any idea how radical such an act would have been in Fodlan.
Once he can catch his thoughts, he states, “Okie. I have seen you and Dimitri together. And I have accepted that this may be a possibility. You have no need to ask this of me. But I- I am glad that you have.”
no subject
Okie has no experience with relationships, let alone polyamory. He had been convinced that they were impossibilities for him. But moment by moment he's increasingly sure that it's something he's capable of, and that he knows how he wants to do it.
"It's important to me that you're a part of this. Loving Dimitri an' bein' part of his life has to mean bein' part 'a yours. Otherwise I'm just stealin' time an' attention from the one person who deserves it most, an' I don't want that."

“You have always seemed honest and dependable. I have a great deal of trust in your interactions with Dimitri. And trust is something I do not give away lightly.”
He nods. “You have my blessing.”

"I was really worried I was gonna have to, like, convince ya."

A pause. “Speakin’ ‘a actions, I did have that other thing to talk to you about. I heard you use axes?”

Then - “I can teach you. However, you will not achieve their level of mastery overnight. They have worked for their skill for a long time. In Dimitri’s case, he was molded from childhood for it.”
He sighs.
“Moreover, you describe yourself as a burden for not being their equal in combat, but I do not think they would agree. They have both seen many dead and would rather see those they love flourish in peacetime than war. There is value in that too.”
