ι¬ΌKYOKAN
Who: Castor, Pollux, and maybe you?
When: September 16
Where: At the edge of the shoreline on the beach
Summary: A sacrifice for Jenny!
Warnings: It's an animal sacrifice but the actual thing isn't like, graphic.
Once the preparations are complete in the mid-afternoon, Castor and Pollux will gather anyone who's interested in attending and begin the sacrifice. As royalty among humans and ancient gods themselves, they are willing to offer a gracious demonstration of how to pay your respects to the gods, beginning with a prayer, but anyone who decides to stay is encouraged to participate—whether by talking with one another or tossing seeds during the ritual, anything so that they could be considered involved themselves.
Once anybody who stops by is ready and quieted down, they will lift their arms to the sky to call upon "Jenny" — a goddess of storms. Just imagine it goes something loosely along the lines of: "We, the Dioscuri, know of your search— while we hope that today's offering pleases you, know that we will reunite you with your brothers. In return, we ask that when we quit this voyage, you offer us, the passengers, your shelter alongside them as we return to where we should be."
Only the ones who don't piss her off is kind of an unsaid implication, but really, it seems like a fair enough trade, right?
The star of the show is a local boar that the two of them brought down together. Next to the makeshift altar, it can be found dressed up in what looks like a very fluffy pink silk scarf, which is tied in a ribbon around it's belly. Once it has agreed to the sacrifice, it's cooked over the open fire, and a certain amount is set aside especially for Jenny—the rest, though? Once the meat has finished cooking, it's distributed among everyone else in attendance, as well as any mangos and other foodstuffs that the guests might have their eyes on. No matter what you decide to accept, you're told that it should be finished by evening.
And when the feast is complete, everyone is invited to participate in games. Whether it's sprint races, jumping competitions, spear throwing, or... frisbee because proper discus' probably aren't available here and Castor sure as hell isn't letting a human touch his, everyone is encouraged to take part and enjoy themselves. (Including if anybody would like to make their own top-levels too!)
[1/2] oh i don't quite think flustered is the feeling castor tends to invoke π
sure, he's (reluctantly) given to accept allowing pollux to socialize on her own, flitting between people as she gets to know those who attended the sacrifice, but that was conditional. so long as she stayed in his line of sight, he could be reassured that nothing would go amiss for her—no harm would come to her. when she leaves that line of sight? well, it's only taken him this long to find her now, crouched down next to some person away from all of the festivities they've gone to such lengths to prepare. not that he blames her, but— )
Pollux?
( he's already trotting up to close the distance. a cursory glance to the one beside her is all it takes to tell him he has no interest in her; a moment where his expression twists in distaste before he turns his attention back to his sister. )
What are you doing over here? I thought you said you wanted to participate in the games.
[2/2] CASTOR IS A BEAST... HE'S NOT GOOD FOR THE FAINT OF HEART
( every bullet shot towards the water will scare off the fish, and it'll ruin the hunter's concentration. that, and the idea of bullets being cemented into the soil for no reason would ruin the ecosystem, causing the plant and animal-life to change locations. they shouldn't both hunt and ruin their home, and she feels as though she should make that known first and foremost. it's not as jinx wants to do anything as cruel as that, especially with how thoughtful she is about certain things. )
Think of the location, it'll sully the habitat if you leave stray bullets. With a spear, it only ta—
( with a familiar voice comes a just as familiar turn of her head, catching the gaze of her brother who is trotting in their direction. oh, she's been caught! she knew that going out of his sight would warrant this, but she didn't expect him to catch up so soon! )
Welcome, I was mentioning one of the events to Jinx. ( she lifts one hand out to the female to identify her. ) The spears that you were making will be fun for fishing together.
( she's including him because he's here now, and as long as she stays within the set idea of what makes castor happy, then he's not so difficult to work with. her eyes fall back onto jinx again, nodding softly as if to confirm the question that she may have about who that is, and yes — that is certainly her older brother. )
OH GOD. I JUST SAW THE THREAD WITH CLARKE. OH NOOOOO.
ah, so. she finally gets to meet the brother exclusively with her. she wonders if he is aware about her being a follower to them. but given how pollux introduced her to him just now, most likely not. but that's okay. gods are usually busy, right? )
Hey.
(it's a small sheepish smile as she waves to him -- hopefully she can make a good first impression.)

it kind of has the same feeling as a human looking down on a bug. )
She's not even taking part in the sacrifice. Why are you wasting your time with her?
( and then it's right back to pollux. he has no real reason or desire to greet or talk with this human, or any human, and really is only doing it for the sake of their sacrifice at this point. if this pathetic dreg of a life form can't be bothered to participate, then neither can he be expected to acknowledge her in turn. and from the look he's giving pollux? he's none too happy that she's decided to, either. )
I believe in jinx to melt his ice cold heart
( she flashes a smile in jinx's direction to say she has this covered before turning to face her brother properly. it's not that he's wrong to be skeptical about jinx considering she didn't come to the sacrifice at all, but she's just picking up a few strays that should come along. )
She's taking part by going fishing, and what she catches she'll bring back. We were discussing the plans, and you came right on time to join us.
( bold and brave, she's not afraid of her brother, but a sacrifice hosted by gods mean she can't allow her actions to be solely emotion based, she must speak with am air befitting of a god— she is zeus' daughter after all, and her previous words did come out matter-of-fact. surely her brother won't be upset with her, nor are these lies, as she turns back to jinx so she can confirm. )
Isn't that right?
W-WE'LL...SEE....SHE GETS ARGGO...
there's a few breaths as she tries to ground herself -- think of a venti's feather. and when pollux addresses to her, jinx tries again and nods in agreement. )
Y-Yeah, that's right. Uh. Sorry, I didn't participate. Jenny and I...well, we didn't really get along. And I felt, I dunno, maybe my presence would had messed things up 'cuz we're not in good terms? So I thought slippin' away was the right choice.
oh my god i HOPE so
his response to jinx comes first, immediate and dismissive. )
How pathetic. If you've angered the gods, that's all the more reason you should make up for your failings through worship.
( if you piss off athena, you don't just run away and try to hide. it's fucking athena. a smart man will stand up and apologize as is expected; it's no different with any other god.
his response to pollux is more patient though. thoughtful, even if exasperated. )
... I suppose I can accompany you.
( because it's preferable to letting some infectious leech attach to his sister. )
when they get to fighting and pollux grounds them both
( she's just fragile to these things as pollux knows, and she's told castor every bit of what went down before. that's why castor's attitude is something she wishes he could be more gentle about, but it's always difficult with him. even if that won't change, their goal remains the same: )
We are the Dioscuri, your light that'll guide you through the darkness. Please remember that, no matter the situation.
( with that said, she's already getting up to her feet as she allows jinx to dine. looking between her brother and then out to the distance where she recalls him making spears, she makes her intentions known. )
I'm going to get four, you two wait here.
AAAH....! also link me this thing about jinx being mentioned to castor. i wanna know....
'see? even HE sees it.'
her hands are balling into fists on her lap and resisting the urge to silence him verbally but...no. she shouldn't let him distract her right now. but he should give her some fucking advice for once in his damn life. the moment she is out of her mind, pollux leaves and now is now left with her brother. there's a quick glance to him before wordlessly picking up her meal again. jinx resumes on to eating -- peeling off the dinner with her thumb and index before shoving it in her mouth. )
[1/1] πππ it's in handwaves unfortunately
so now he's stuck with this human. gross.
castor watches her for a long moment as she settles back into her meal—his gaze on her is heavy with scorn but, fortunately, he doesn't feel the need to comment as pollux's back disappears in the direction of the rest of the festivities. then again, he's not the best at staying still himself.
there's a huff of a sigh when he finally decides that this human's not going to do a flip for his entertainment. while jinx may have chosen a spot underneath a tree to comfortably sit, castor is going to start making his way to the shoreline. he's going to peer into the water as he steps around some of the tide pools scattered about, trying to get a sense for where they can start. )
aww thats ok! im gonna assume he was grumpy cat.
she bends her legs as she probs her elbows on her knees; her cheek resting underneath her palm with sly grin.)
So! β Not even thirty minutes in and already can't stand me. And being such a big and powerful God like yourself whose probably been around for thousands of years, I'm sure you've met many mortals similar to me. Don't tell me you don't know how handle a girl. Or... hasn't been so long for you that you've gotten a lil' weak and you're fumblin'?
If ya need some help, I know a cutie in green with braids who can give ya few pointers.
[1/1] PROBABLY TRUE its how we're pollux's jesters she wants to see where this goes
she's right about one thing; a brat like this is a dime a dozen. )
Is that all you can muster?
( "what, you're bad at talking to girls?" she asks the guy with a sister complex. didn't quite hit the target, but does manage to get an ugly sneer out of him. )
How dull. I'm not about to waste my time on an insignificant human.
Insert some cute cat dancing discord emote here.
(jinx will give a nonchalant shrug though as she picks another piece of the meal -- popping it into her mouth.)
β But whatever. You don't have to tag along. I can just spend time with your sis instead. Get some more one-on-one with her so I know her better. Since I'm a new follower and all.
[1/2] crying...
There's stingrays here. A lot of shellfish, too.
( look how well he's behaving, sis. praise him! )
[2/2] im the bouncing pusheen
( pollux arrives with four spears tucked between her arm and waist, walking towards them both who seem to be interacting pretty well. it's nice to see that castor hasn't done anything offensive while she's gone, and that makes her happier all the more. )
I haven't had stingray in a long time, that would be fun to all cook together.
( once by his side, she offers one of the spears to him with a gentle smile. ) Thank you for watching over her, you never let me down.
( she returns her attention to jinx next, now don't think what she said wasn't heard at all. )
Is that what you want from me, Jinx? ( one hand tosses a spear in her direction for her to catch. )
One-on-one time. I'll have you know, I'm really a boxer at heart; if the art of the fist is what you're willing to learn then I wouldn't mind it.
no subject
with the spear getting toss to her, jinx catches it with a breeze and no hesitation. as she gets to her feet, she swings the stick over her shoulder with a grin and a shake of her head.)
Not the kind of one-on-one I had in mind. Anythin' with fists is my big sister's territory. She's got the big hands between the two of us.
(as she takes one step, jinx uses her shimmer speed to zip right next to pollux -- her body moving in a blur with a pink glow trial from her eyes lingering behind. with her standing sweetly, she cocks her head to the side.)
β Now! If we're talkin' about guns, that'll be somethin' I'll be interested in. Do a lil' shootin' gallery or target practice. Those I love.
no subject
Nobody asked what you're interested in.
( he accepts the spear, answering before pollux has the chance to, and only turning to meet her eyes as he continues. he tips his chin, looking down on her with an ugly sneer and an accusatory tone to match. )
Who do you think you are to reject her kindness? You should be grateful she would bother with the likes of you.
no subject
And when you run out of bullets, what happens next?
( there's no source of unlimited ammo unless she can make it in a matter of seconds, ) You should learn various weapons, you'll never know when you'll be without your gun.
( she looks to her brother now as she reels back her hand to drop back down by her side. )
Brother can teach you how to use the discus, ( yes, she's made the executive decision. ) but it's up to you how well you're able to aim.
no subject
Who do I think I am? Last I checked, I'm Jinx!! And Jinx does what she wants, when she wants, and gets what she wants. I don't reeeallly answer to anyone usually. So the fact I'm givin' YOU the time of day is the real blessin' around here. In fact, I think I'm gonna start ignorin' you now. You remind me too much of a Topsider and that puts a bad taste in my mouth.
(with that, she does a little bounce in her step and entirely focuses on pollux.)
RIGHT, SO! You said somethin' about bullets? β Guess you hit the nail on that. I aaaam a bit on the low side of it. And when it comes to other weapons? I know my way around a knife but not to a full extent.
no subject
so he gives a low chuckle, reaching up to take pollux's hand in both of his as he looks back to her again. )
Ha! You see that, Sister? Looks like she doesn't want to talk to me either.
( is he smiling because he's happy he doesn't have to deal with her, or... )
No wonder Jenny didn't like her.
no subject
I understand my brother is... difficult, but his heart is linked with mine, so is our soul. Even acknowledging me will mean acknowledging him, and ignoring him means...
( ignoring her as well. it's upsetting when she thinks about it, but she shouldn't arrange her words to be so black and white which is unfair to jinx. unfortunately, the dioscuri are bound to always be one so it's best to try and remedy the problem that's placed before her when her brother acts this way. )
Please understand, we are meant to aid any crisis that you may have. That will always stay the same, Castor is a God of his word, and we will watch over you. I cannot oversee you alone.
That said, Brother, there's no need to act this way. We're supposed to spearfish together, and doing this with both Jinx and you is something that I'm looking forward to. Unless you two have decided against it...
( now she's deflating. )
no subject
Right, right...
(she mutters and lets the words flow away from her before removing the spear off her shoulder. jinx stabs the pointy end to the ground (twisting it so it'll stand up right on its own) then places her hands on her hips.)
(and still, she keeps her focus solely on pollux:)
"Aid me through any crisis", huh? Yeah, I'm reeaaally certain wannabe tough guy over here β (she tilts her head over to castor's direction.) β will guide me off a cliff. Listen. If you think I'm gonna follow, worship, and pray over an asshole who thinks I'm or all mortals, probably, are scum and defected, you got another thing comin', girlie.
That's a life I've already lived and I'm not goin' back to that. And I got nooooo problem with handlin' things the exact same way I did with the Pilities. (and to demonstrate what she means by this, jinx lifts up her arm and forms her fingers into a gun -- aiming her fingertips right to castor's forehead.) And believe me, I got a shark who's been hungry and dyin' to get a lil' bite.
(jinx drops her arm back down at her side then turning on her heel with her back to them. she yanks the spear off the ground and swings it back over her shoulder.)
Case you've forgotten, I already have a God who I'm devoted to. So it's not like I need either of you in the end.
(she is over at the waters now; scanning for any fish.)
I'm only givin' this a chance 'cuz you've said it'd help mine out. And for him, I'd do anythin' to help, make shit easier for him, and put a smile on his face.
(jinx holds the spear up steadily as she spots a sea creature nearby.)
So! What will it be, huh? Wanna watch over me, guide me, and I pray to you and all that? β Start by givin' me some respect, then.
ME: 5
luckily, she's digging herself a hole so deep that castor doesn't even need to fuss. )
All I said is that she should treat you with the proper respect.
( the respect she deserves. if this entitled brat can't do that much, why is it his problem? for once in his life, he's actually not the one stomping his feet and throwing a tantrum right now because he doesn't want to share his space with a filthy human; in fact, as much as he thinks he would be perfectly correct in doing so, he's done nothing to earn any of this ire so far as he's concerned. he'll fish with a human, and he'll tolerate a human, if that's what makes pollux happy—but he will not play nice with a bitch like this.
he will squeeze pollux's hand as he hears how disheartened she sounds though. )
It's true that we're the light of the guiding star, but our blessing is a privilege. We aren't obligated to help those who are ungrateful.
no subject
there is shelter for them, and the storm will pass before they can move forward. their blessings have always been a privilege, and it's one she decided to offer to jinx. a difficult girl she is, she's used to razing hell, and fighting against those only to hurt them, but this should not be the case when they are twin gods, and their existence is to guide. )
Please listen to me, my brother would not allow harm to come onto you, and he would not lead you to it. ( she finds it ridiculous. ) If there's anything I could ask for, please have more faith in us. Our desires are one in the same, and we only strive to offer what's best, so please do not think ill of him.
( she could never agree with the idea of him causing harm, and there's a gentle squeeze given back to her brother's hand. he's always like this around her, she's not blind to it, and that's why she leaves her hand clasped to his as she slowly pulls them over to jinx. she turns her spear upside down, digging the sharp end into the ground to hold is there as she reaches out for jinx's wrist holding the spear, it's a gentle touch where her thumb brushes lightly until creeping up to her hand. )
Have I not respected you, Jinx? Like I said, we will always listen, and if you call, we, the Dioscuri, will hear you.
( her words come out honest, gentle as she speaks, and even going as far as to try and weave her fingers between jinx's. )
His attitude may not be to your liking, but my brother is reliable, and someone that you can count on. Humans have left a scar on his heart, but you are also tender from the world, and you both are under my supervision as I want to protect you both. My responsibilities are shared with him, and I want nothing more to protect the girl I saw in the library along with my big brother.
no subject
'he's trying to make YOU the problem.'
'it wasn't a mishap. she froze up and lost her shit.'
'she's a problem and we all know it'
her nails are digging into the wooden spear and she's gritting her teeth so hashly, it'd be a miracle if they didn't crack. why is he being this way to her? she greeted him calmly when he walked over, apologized and explained why she didn't participated, and she even thanked the two of them for meal in a prayer. she hadn't done anything wrong.
'you could fill up a whole damn library of all the things YOU didn't do'
her breathing grows shallow with her mind swirling in thoughts to just... turn around and jab the spear into his throat. to get him to shut up, to get him to stop lying.
'we aren't obligated to help those who are ungrateful.'
'they will never understand. it's only us. everyone else betrays us, jinx.'
it's pollux's touch that snaps her out of her chaotic swarm of voices. she gets startle and for a split moment, looks frighten. the look doesn't linger for long while once more exchanging the glance between the siblings. there is hesitation on jinx's part -- unable to decide to kept their fingers interwine or yank away completely. there's so much frustration and anger building up at the pit of her stomach that she's swelling up with small pink tears.
and she wants her voice to be firm and steady as she speaks but it only wavers.)
You've gave me your respect but not him. (and finally, jinx looks over to address him:) And I'm sorry people hurt you when you were younger or whatever. But that's not my problem so don't take it out on me.
(
hello, hypocrite. how are you today?)I've been nothin' but civil to you and you've called me "pathetic", "ungrateful", and tryin' to belittle me. (she then finally tugs her hands away from pollux. jinx takes several steps to close the gap between her and castor; completely evading his personal space. the quivering voice of hers now strengthens.) β Here's a lil' tip for ya: normally mortals don't like it when you treat 'em like crap. Often leads to rebellion and betrayal. And who knows? Maaaayybe even a lil' assassination. Which fun act about me, is part of my former profession.
So, go ahead. Keep pushin' me. And if you do wind up like our precious lil' Jens, you've got yourself to blame. You're gonna be Pollux's downfall, hope you're aware of that.
(when she gazes over to pollux again, there's a mixture of sympathetic in it. because she really is a kind person and believes all of her lovely sweet words. but with her douche-y brother as an attachment, jinx isn't sure if she can keep allowing herself to worship over someone like him. the way he speaks to her and treats her, it reminds her too much of previous life. how the topsiders looked down on her and her people as nothing but bugs -- sending the Enforcer to kick them and shove them in the dirt or fences just because they believe they were out of line.
her people begged for help or better food that wasn't mold but each time they only ignored their plead. they tucked them away in the dark because their appearance made them look displeasing to the rest of the cities. if her father were alive today, he wouldn't want her to pray over anyone who is remotely similar to the city up above.)
... I think I'm gonna leave. Thanks for feedin' me. It was good...
