SEPTEMBER EVENT: SKULLY'S ANGELS
[around 10:30PM, after Friday has returned from bringing all the other guests back to the ship, she parks the tender just off the shore, idling. she sticks her head out of the door.]
Good luck! Just come get me if you need anything! [beat] But, only if it’s something I can do without stepping outside! [beat] Have fun!
[she then pops back inside. they’re on their own, for now.
the salamander villagers have returned to their homes for the night, it seems… all but one, a smaller one, bedecked in leather armor and carrying a spear. they watch the group as they leave the beach, eyes fixed… and then, slowly but distinctly, they toss their head in the direction of inland, and turn away from them to begin a sort of watch.
perhaps that was salamander for good luck. you’ll need it.]

A second wave of fuckery descends and he seems unaffected here, as well. Good. Someone has to keep their shit together, but he's coming up from behind now on account of going back for everyone's shit.]
You lot, fall in!

Jenny's not wrong either, though--they need to get to the beach, and the tender waiting upon it, hinging upon the hope that surely this fog won't follow them out across the sea. As Max is already going after Ava--they'll have to leave him to it, try to strike through the forest in the meantime as fast as possible. Seems Izzy has the bag full of artifacts now, at least--
And then the screaming starts.
If Jade's nerves were any less steady he'd be jumping out of his skin, to say the least; it's a positively mortifying sound coming out of Skulduggery's skeletal jaws up ahead, even as he still seems to keep moving. And...now Darcy seems to be wavering too? Saying something indistinct and teary. --Is that even more laughter, now, coming from Jenny's direction?
Izzy speaks up at an actually normal volume from behind, and Jade's turning to him with a slight falter in his own steps; his own constant composure remains steady, but a grimace is definitely crossing his features about now.]
Easier said than done, it seems! [By...whatever this thing is?? Some kind of powerful curse ailment for a fact, but this much variance all at once--would a panacea bottle even work here? (And to whom would it even be given--?)] More of us have been hit. Check on Darcy! [She's a bit nearer, and in the meantime Jade's moving to lengthen his stride and catch up with Skulduggery up ahead--]

Friday can be seen leaning out of the tender door, having a sort of frantic hand signal-based conversation with... the twenty or so armed salamander warriors lining up by the water. they glare at the group venomously, but... at the very least, they don't seem to be attacking? maybe they feel the fog is punishment enough.
Max, Ava, Jade, and Jenny fail the final sanity check. Max begins screaming. Ava becomes catatonic. Jade faints dead away.
and Jenny…]
2/3 tw: suicide

the one that hits the water isn't.
a vaguely humanoid form, all packed soil and rises and rushes forward towards the sand, heedless of the sloughing off bloody sand and... teeth? bits of flesh, broken bone, the other detritus of corpses. it settles heavily next to where Jenny has fallen on the sands, oddly silent but for wet, desperate gasps.]
Oh!
[she looks up at them, featureless face still somehow familiar despite the veins of old blood streaking through it.]
Please, get on the tender! She'll die here! Forever! He can save her! He has to!
no subject
Some of them have made it, anyway.]
FRIDAY! GET READY!
[Izzy is running too quickly to see half the team drop, too focused on getting to their escape with Darcy and (most of?) the relics in tow, but he knows the sound of steel through flesh and that's what makes him turn and stumble.
Slow motion under bright moonlight, blood gushing thick and fast.]
Fuuuck-
[Shit- shit fucking- useless- how are they supposed to ransom Jenny her brother's souls if she's FUCKING DEAD!? His arm doesn't leave Darcy. Jenny wouldn't just kill herself, right? Where's the sense in that? Something's made her do it and that something is actively coming after all of them.]
Darcy, get on the fucking boat. NOW!
no subject
The tender's still there, even if it's hemmed by salamander folk by this point. No matter, they'll fight through if they must, but the main thing is that they're almost there. Jade's turning to the others same as Izzy as they emerge onto the beach.]
Steady now, we're here! Just a bit--
[--It's like someone swinging a bat directly at the back of his head, though there's no time to parse whether there was actually a physical impact.
Voice quite abruptly dying jn his throat, Jade's knees buckle mid-sprint, and he finds his eyesight going just as quickly. A last, barest glimpse of Jenny reaching the tender a bit further ahead, and pausing, and reaching into her coat for her blade...
And maybe there's a flash of steel, and shouting, and crimson sand. Or maybe not. It'll be a memory difficult to make any sense of, in the future, because Jade's promptly collapsing onto the ground like a sack of potatoes, utterly dead to the world.]
no subject
Oh God.
Jenny and Jade both drop like sacks of bricks, Jenny bleeding into the sand and Jade-
She pushes herself away from Izzy and makes a mad dash for Jade. Skulduggery has Jenny, now she can focus on repaying Jade saving their asses in the last excursion. She gets one of his arms over her shoulder and screeches- ]
GET ONTO THE FUCKING BOAT OR HELP ME!
[ The tears on her face still drying. C'mon- St Expedite, St Jude- everyone gets home, one more time, everyone gets home- ]

and then.
well. she blankly watches a spray of blood without quite registering what any of it means, hears something ringing in her ears just faintly until there's no sound at all.
she doesn't exactly sit so much as give up on standing. the world around her slides out of focus until she forgets anything exists at all.
her slumped form is a faint blur, she doesn't have any energy to really hold it one way or another.]
no subject
He'd like to ask Ava if she's alright, but well, that's not happening.
The slumping to the ground is very alarming and he'd probably even admit it but thanks to the fax machine noises he's making he doesn't have to! Thanks curse.
Ava is getting scooped and carried since she's apparently not moving on her own, maybe she's exhausted from all that running? He has no idea, and frankly he doesn't care. He doesn't even want to shoot anything anymore, he just wants to leave. So he's going to carry her onto the boat, set her down -- and then shut himself off and collapse. ]

And then -- Friday. Seeing her plainly for the first time should be enough to remind him that she's only a construct, that the emotions she expresses are nothing more than the result of her being designed to care where the Captain could not. It should repulse him the way it does when he has to deal with the hollow men.
He drops to her side, pressing one gloved hand hard over the bubbling gash in Jenny's throat.] Damned right, he has to. [Okay, just have to get her up and maybe not have her bleed out first.] Help me carry her. Will the salamanders attack?

[beat]
If, um, you could leave whatever "the can" is behind, though? That's apparently the most valuable item to them... It helps cure insanity!
no subject
The can? [...cures insanity? ...Probably not the kind of cure that would work for psychotic demi-gods and wannabes like Jenny and the Captain.] Fine, fine --
[He hollers, just like, at the top of his lungs,] GIVE THE LIZARDS THE DAMN CAN BACK! [Alright, Jenny, please don't weigh as much as Max. ...Wait where is Max. And Ava??? Son of a bitch.]
no subject
It's here!
[This is fucking madness, why aren't they all sailing the fuck away from here already! Izzy pulls over Max's bag and roots through it for the tin of beans, holding it up with triumph. Look. It's been a long night.]
If you lot want this, fine. Take it.
[Here lizards, lizards, lizards pss pss pss]
no subject
Fuck you.
[before returning to their people, who, clearly mollified, leave the weird dead explorers to do whatever it is they do.]

He goes to pick some of the sticks out of his outfit as he walks towards the rest of them when chaos ensues even more so than it had been. Jenny goes down, Jade too, the screams abruptly cut off to be replaced with Max's terrible robotic static as he 'malfunctions' even though his diagnostics say he's completely fine! He's definitely not screaming due to trauma or anything!
Anyway he's here now, and he's going to compress the past 10 minutes into a zip folder and archive it away and delete the encryption key so he never has to reconcile what just happened.]
