[The guy he met earlier is busy, so he slides up to the bar where the pretty barmaid is serving drinks. There is very little doubt that this guy is well over the age for legal drinking. He's only really just arrived, so this is his first drink of the party. Not of the day, but of the party anyway.

He looks at the straw in someone's koolaid with almost childlike interest.]

Can I get one of those bendy things?

[ She stares at him blankly for a good few seconds. ]

Oh. A straw? [ She twirls around, picking up one of the colorful straws she has for the younger crowd, and plops a purple one into his cocktail when she turns around. ] Most people just down their drinks immediately. Surprised you want to nurse on yours.

[ Unless he just... wants a straw. Which, like, fair. Bendy straws are fun. As a bird, she's allowed to think this. ]

Nurse it. Right. [He looks down into the drink and then away with a guilty face, not at all having planned to nurse it so much as suck it all up really fast through the straw and then probably play with/chew on the straw for a while because it looked like fun. He takes a draw of it through the straw.]

What do you call this one? [He's learned from the bar earlier that these drinks have fun names.]

[ Despite the name, it doesn't actually have too much of a kick. No more than your average cocktails, anyway. ]

You were a hard one to decide on. This one seemed fitting enough.

[He gives the drink a frown and then sips it again.]

Why'd you pick this one, then? I mean, why not just go with a straight rum or something.

Less fun. Drinking rum all the time and not trying to spice it up a little is boring and something that sad people do.

I drink whatever's available, but it's usually rum--lots of sugar in the Caribbean, they gotta do something with it, I guess.

[ She has no idea where that is, but nods anyway. ]

I suppose it's better than just drinking beer all the time. Still, you should try exploring your other options. You'll never know when you'll find something that you love.
