"Have an interest in dead bodies?" because he certainly wouldn't stick around to help anyone if they were being messily murdered. "Considering the volume of the music you may not find out about it until tomorrow when someone is missing. I'm not sure I'd be able to decipher gunshots at this point."
No one has informed Max that people who die come back, and he will be aghast when he finds out.
no subject
He shrugs, vaguely. Saying so aloud makes it all seem... silly.
"There are good deaths and bad, I suppose. At least I can prevent the bad. My name is Watson, by the way. Dr. John Watson."
no subject
"Good and bad? I suppose there's slow and quick - I'm not certain what I would categorize as a good death." He's never really thought about it, other than avoiding death as long as possible. Preferably forever. No one really knows how long an Omnic will last before the circuitry literally falls apart, and he's determined to find out himself.
"Maximilien. A pleasure." He nods politely, hands clasped behind his back.
no subject
Watson shrugs, though it's a vague, helpless sort of gesture.
"Forgive me if the question is impertinent, Mr. Maximilien," because it's been nagging at him and he really wants to know, "but are you entirely mechanical?"
no subject
"Pardon, come back the next day? Does that happen?" Usually people stay dead, it's generally accepted to be the desired outcome from killing someone. Expected even.
He does preen slightly from being called Mr. Maximilien - that's a nice bit of respect he's not entirely used to. Which softens him slightly from snapping back something harsh. "Yes. Completely."
no subject
But yes, that's a rather... important fact that he just accidentally brought up. He gives a rueful smile. "Yes, here, people do come back. I haven't any notion of how, at least not yet, but regardless, it does happen. The deceased wake up in their beds the following morning."
no subject
"In my world I'm called an Omnic. But I've yet to meet anyone else here who's heard of that." He doesn't sound too broken up about that, it's probably for the best, honestly.
"Then what's stopping everyone from killing each other all the time knowing they'll simply wake up tomorrow and it wouldn't have mattered?"
no subject
Which is why he's so fascinated, perhaps. Still, Max has posed a very serious question, one which Watson isn't sure he has the answer to.
"Simple civility? The knowledge that one has to face one's victim the following day over breakfast? An unwillingness to experiment with the situation so early? I really haven't any notion." He shrugs. "Perhaps given time that will break down, but I am not eager for that."
no subject
"I'm from the year 2076 so I may be in your future. Or a completely different world as seems to be the case with many who are here." Who knew there were a zillion different worlds all populated with humans somehow. Curious.
"Ah, relying on morality to keep the peace seems to not be a long term solution," He says with the confidence of someone who barely has any. "If whatever keeps us here doesn't want us dead then everyone killing each other might be a true act of defiance."
no subject
Watson takes a sip of his drink. "And no doubt you're right. Perhaps it simply hasn't been long enough for us all to descend into immorality and barbarism."
no subject
He's not sure what's worse, this place seemingly being somewhere in the past with none of the modern amenities he's used to, or having been brought so far forward there's technology that's beyond understanding.
"How long have you been trapped here? I'll start biding my time until the chaos begins."
no subject
Watson gives a wry grimace. There's something almost embarrassing when it's put that way. Nobody likes to have it underlined what a relic they are.
"Just shy of two months, now," he continues. "I don't believe anyone was here much longer than I was, though. A few days, perhaps. Nothing substantial."
no subject
"So the ship was empty prior to that? That's... Well that's rather odd. Especially considering the size of the ship. Has it ever docked anywhere for supplies?" He's tried to see land in any direction from the deck but it seems like they're always in the middle of the ocean with nothing in sight. But it must need to dock occasionally for food and water for all these people. For fuel. Restocking. Right?
no subject
Which, well, he's not sure.
"We have not stopped anywhere in the entire two months," Watson continues, happy to share this information. He sees no point in hiding information from anyone. "We have seen no land. We have seen one other ship, a wooden sailing ship that kept pace with us, and while the captain of that vessel stayed with us for some weeks, I don't believe anything so mundane happened as a resupply."
no subject
"What happened to the captain of the other ship?"
