Watson, too, must fill up a plate at the table, with an assortment of food both familiar and unfamiliar, but he turns at just the right moment to catch that hasty cheek-rub. The last time he spoke with Jinx was not exactly... friendly. Even so, he doesn't have the heart to walk away.

"Why, Miss Jinx. Are you all right?" He steps over, his face full of honest concern.

[opheliac]

( oh, dang it. jinx sniffles and flashes him a sheepishly smile. a chuckle before she lifts up a hand to give him the "OK" sign with her thumb and index. )

Mmhmm, yep! A-okay, Eh heh heh...

[lightconductor]

He looks at her for a moment, trying to decide if she's lying or not.

"If you're certain," Watson says, though he doesn't sound convinced. He is, however, pretending he's convinced, or trying to. He leans against the wall as well, trying one of the potato chips. "It's a good party, isn't it?"

Really, ya think?

( her tone gets a sudden high-pitch hopefulness before she realizes that probably sounds strange to get excited over it. jinx awkwardly fixes her posture with her fingers combing through her bangs.

a bite of her lip, she speaks again but this time soft and lull: )

I, uh, didn't actually think anyone would show up. 'Cuz, y'know, uh... me.

He looks at her in some surprise.

"Truly?" Granted, she can be... volatile, but he has a hard time believing anyone has had a more difficult time with her than he and Rin. And hey, he's still here, but maybe he's just sort of stubborn and used to dealing with difficult people. "I didn't think you had made so many enemies here as all that. Actually, I think it quite evident you haven't," he adds, gesturing to the party around them.

Heh. It's a reeeaal shocker to me. — Especially with what I do.

( jinx takes the mild chicken bite and pops it in her mouth; chewing thoroughly. )

Let's just say where I'm from, I'm not... practically liked anywhere.

[lightconductor]

"Ah. I'm sorry to hear that."

Well, he knows perfectly well that in his own time, Jinx would likely be shut in an asylum and abandoned there. A pity, and a waste.

"You've certainly gone to a good deal of effort here, though. I admit, it's not much like any party I've been to before, but I'm still here, aren't I?"

[opheliac]

( a giggle and a soft hum. the warm smile is returning and usually she hardly wears it but perhaps it's the alcohol to blame for its existence. carefully, she nudges him in a playful manner in her attempt to brighten up the mood more for herself. )

Yea! Aaaand maybe I can try and find a song that's more your speed. I'm sure this ship's gotta have music from all kinds of time periods.

"Oh, I should hope so. Not that this is unpleasant," he adds thoughtfully. "It's rather fun. But something familiar would also be nice."

Watson pauses, then adds, "It's also very loud."

Can't blame me for that! That's just how it is now, ha ha! — I'd get use to it if I were yooouuu.

[lightconductor]

"Yes, well. I suppose I'll survive the experience. It's at least a pleasant sort of noise."

More or less. He smiles warmly at her. "But I'll let you be, perhaps. I'm glad to hear you're doing well."

( she teases while resuming back to chowing down on this chicken bites and potato chips. )
