( that is perhaps the only good thing about waking up on a cruise liner stranded among dozens of strangers. no one knows your bloodied resume except those you choose to tell, and carefully cultivate that circle well enough, none of them really care in the long run. not that that's a conscious thought in clarke's brain right now — this might be the first time in a while she's not actively thinking about death and destruction at her hands, both past and future. her head is pleasantly fogged, and so, so heavy. and it's not like the mask of exhaustion where she recalls the faces of every single person she's ever wronged — looking sideways at her new floor buddy, she can barely focus on wanda's features. )

I took the bait.

( a statement which makes perfect sense to clarke, and very accurately describes that entire situation. but, on second thought and after experimentally flexing her bandaged fingers, she figures... gotta expand on that. )

I played a game with a knife, to try to win an emerald. I didn't even want the emerald, and I don't really know why I did it...

( every slight hurt and major discomfort always manage to run down to the bone. but right now, drunk on the floor, is not a time to psychoanalyze the deeper underpinnings of her desire to hurt. it's just a nice moment to shrug along, agree but evade.

appearances can often be dangerous, notably when the personification of death hides behind the visage of young women. in one moment maybe they're sloppy drunk and sweaty on the floor, freely bleeding from the hand and shrugging. )

I'll be fine. ( dealt with worse with less. the white shirt she's wearing still has a smattering of faded black stains around the neckline, from where she'd split open her head and died a few weeks ago. dryer sheets couldn't get those marks out and clarke's immediately grown desensitized to them. )
