Oooh I am— kind of terrible at that sort of stuff. I like some kinds of writing for fun, but if I had to make, like, an informative booklet or something I'd start thinking of it like schoolwork and it'd never get finished.
[ She was very much that child who struggled with focusing on actual classwork, not that she didn't try her best. Without grades as a motivator, having to explain over and over is almost easier. ]
My world has a lot of magic-y stuff that isn't actually magic going on, so, that's a lot of it. What... kind of world do you come from?
There's no real magic in it. No grand exploration, space, or devices like the ones around the ship. It's...quieter. Pretty boring, compared to the stories others hold.
[nothing to be thought of. nothing no one else should bother after. because there's always that risk of between, and that's nothing she wants to place in another's hands. there are no good stories there, nothing others need to carry on themselves.]
Here, it seems like some truly impossible things are made possible, and not even the ones that you would typically think of. A device that can take my voice, and write down my words for me? That's magic in my eyes.
[ Ruby's world is the opposite of boring, but as much as she actually doesn't mind explaining her world... sometimes it's nice to put off the reactions to the more horrific parts of her life that she simply can't separate from the rest, because they're so intertwined. Not to mention the Grimm, being a fighter, it would be as good as lying. ]
Huh. I hadn't really thought about that. Most of the technology here is pretty normal for me, a lot of it looks different and works different but... it's similar enough, you know? But you don't have things like the phones?
[and not connected to the wall. certainly, it was fit for communication, but she had considered it a messaging device, and not some type of phone - the two were completely separate in her mind.]
Well, it's sort of a phone, I don't think it can actually do calls, but it's otherwise a lot like my equivalent of a phone? [ she pulls out her scroll, looks at Helena, blinks, oh right, she has the cane so she's probably— ] Oh, you won't be able to see this, I guess, but I have a device not much different than the ship phones. It does calls, messaging, pictures, even games. Plus some more specific stuff from my world.
Oh, yeah, sure! [ she actually hits the button so the screen extends from the base hardware, and will hand it over to Helena ] It's mostly a touch screen on hardlight dust, but I can turn on some of the audio assistance if you wanted to poke at it some.
[there's a genuine awe that comes as she shifts her cane and uses both hands to hold the device. technology is amazing - it's truly captivating, how far some people can go. it's only after a moment that she remembers to voice her thoughts.]
Hardlight, you said...I know a few people who'd be over the moon to know something like this exists, and be looking to understand and recreate it.
[Tracy would be enamored of any new devices. and Luca would see the opportunities, and start fiddling - if he didn't already have half his room taken apart for a new lab.]
It's cool, right? Hardlight dust is pretty rare in comparison to other dusts where I come from, though uh, 'dust' is one of those things only my world seems to have.
[ Literal magic dust, though they still don't call it magic. Ruby can't not smile at how awed Helena is by it all. ]
But hardlight is only really used for a few mainstream things, the rest is all highly specialised and rarely seen. Like uhhh... shields, or a friend of mine uses it to copy weapons.

[make people read it, and let them get up to speed before continuing on. no one person is the representative for the whole world.]

[oh, she has to ask. she has to.]
Would you...would it be okay if I held it for a moment?
[so that she can know it.]
