i've heard it all before [open]
Who: Vance Hopper & OPEN
When: After his arrival in late August
Where: All around
Summary: Vance has arrived and he is NOT happy about it but he's not happy about anything really so he can deal with it.
Warnings: he's very mean (and also likely to be discussing child murder because he is a child who was murdered)
( FOX ON THE RUN ) / deck
[ Vance is walking around on the deck, fists clenched and scowling at anyone who passes by. He doesn't actually talk to anyone yet because he's still used to most people not being able to see him, but he's there.
...And he's absolutely covered in dried blood that he could wash off at any time. He hasn't figured that out yet, either, so he's just. Walking around like that. ]
( PINBALL WIZARD ) / playback
[ Of course as soon as Vance finds Playback he heads straight for the pinball. On one hand, this place sucks. On the other hand, it does have pinball. And nicer machines than the one at the convenience store back home, too. Maybe it's not hell after all.
He's completely in the zone, still getting used to an unfamiliar board so he's not quite at high score tier just yet, but he's still pretty good.
And he knows when someone's lurking around nearby, despite his concentration. ]
You can watch if you want but if you throw me off I'll kick your ass. [ Said whether the nearby person was actually watching him or not. ]
( SCHOOL'S OUT ) / library
[ What a nice library. It'd be a shame if some rude boy went and sat with his shoes right on one of the tables, loudly talking to himself as he flips through a comic book.
He's just looking at the pictures, of course. What is this, school? All things considered, it's not the rudest thing he could be doing, but if there's an opportunity to be obnoxious he's going to take it. ]
( I WANNA BE SEDATED ) / outside of hurikane
[ Vance tried to get himself a drink (after half a year of being dead he deserves a good drink, he thinks) but the second he tries he gets escorted out and told to go back to Playback. He's already had plenty of fun at Playback, thank you, now he wants to have some irresponsible fun.
He stands with his hands in his pockets trying to look inconspicuous until someone who looks like they might be an adult passes by. ]
Psst. [ He leans in towards them. ] Get me a drink. I'll make it worth your while.
[ Let it be known that he has absolutely nothing to offer anyone that would make it worth their while. ]
( WILDCARD )
[ chimera#5926 or PM to plot. Or just go for it, if there's something you want with him. Surprise me. ]

Sure! Of course, if you try to take anything else, it will be taken from you!
no subject
... Probably not. Maybe. Maybe? Well, still, Jack nods like he understands and this is reasonable.]
Right. Of course. Thanks.
[He's maybe two steps into Hurikane when he swings his hand up and reaches out with telekinesis to grab the first bottle it can reach.]

Jack stares, still with his arm held out, eyebrows raised as high as they can go. Of everything he expected, that certainly wasn't it.
Finally, he wiggles his fingers, flexes his hand, and lowers it, nodding. There is a not insignificant part of him that is sorely tempted to act his age and try throwing a chair or stool into the shelves instead, a sort of 'if I can't then NO ONE can' way to make himself feel better. But he might still have an audience, if not the kid then Friday.
So, okay. He puts his hands in his pockets, turns around, exits the bar, and heads over to the teen outside, rum-and-cokeless.]
No dice, kid. [He says, very casually, like he was busted for a normal reason and not for being four fucking years old.] Looks like we need a Plan B.
no subject
[ Now that this guy's no longer an easy booze ticket, Vance drops whatever semblance of politeness he'd put on earlier, but he really wants his rum and coke so he's willing to work something out. ]
Ugh, fine. If one of us distracts the faceless bitch, do you think that'll be enough to grab some and go?
no subject
[Jack says that smoothly, because like any lie it's mostly true: his ID wasn't good for a damn thing.
He nods, considering the plan.]
Maybe - I tried to grab one but something shot it out of the air. I'm not sure what did that, though, but if it was Friday, then distracting her might do the trick.
[He looks over at the bar and thinks for a moment.]
Normally I'd say you distract Friday and I'll walk in there, but she already knows I'm trying to get one past her, so I might as well keep her suspicion on me. How fast can you run?
no subject
[ Sometimes he has to chase after people, so speed is still important. ]
no subject
[Jack struggles to find an above-board way to describe this, before he gives up and shrugs.]
Smash and grab. Maybe without the smash, hopefully.
[He slips his hands out of his pockets and looks at the bar again.]
Alright, I'm going in. Get in and out quick when you can.
[Jack sounds as serious as if this were a grim military operation.]
no subject
[ He sneaks inside, quick on his feet but not exactly inconspicuous with that giant mop of hair, and tries to grab a bunch of bottles in his arms while Jack hopefully provides a distraction.
He's concentrating, and in the zone, but severely overestimates his own ability to pull one over on Friday. ]
no subject
He heads over to the front of the bar to buy the kid some time, ready for round two of chatting up Friday, taking a broad angle that would keep Friday's eye...s... Well, keep Friday facing- pointing towards him and away from the bar.]
no subject
the next bolt of lightning isn't aimed at the bottles. it's aimed right between Vance's shoulderblades.]
no subject
[ He tries to go ghost the second he feels the pain, but it still hurts like hell and sends any bottles he grabbed crashing to the ground as they fall out of his now-intangible arms.
Still dazed (and still ghostly), he lays on the floor, twitching in pain. ]
no subject
Oh SHIT.
[Without thinking, he rushes into the bar to check if the kid is okay after his stupid fucking plan got him hit by lightning from - from where?? Fuck, he'll figure that out later.
He hasn't been out of Rapture long enough to lose the habit of keeping an ear out for danger, so half his mind is on that while he crunches through the broken glass and squats beside the kid to see if he's still breathing.]
no subject
Fuck, what happened? Did we get the booze?
no subject
Forget about that, are you okay?
[The kid's talking and isn't actively sparking, so Jack reaches out to touch the kid's shoulder and maybe start helping him up if he can move - but while he didn't notice the transparency right away, he does notice when his fingers don't actually come into contact with anything?]
no subject
[ He feels Jack's hand pass through him and realizes he's still a ghost. ] Don't worry about it. I was a ghost when I got here.
no subject
Jack sits back on his heels, staring at Vance as he thinks about this. He doesn't have the blue outline or glow he's used to with ghosts, and while he's see-through the ghosts he remember were barely visible...
... And also semi-hallucinations from ADAM use, which probably isn't happening this time.
Anyway, and more importantly, if he can just wake up on this ship and have his movement controlled by unseen forces and have Gal Friday manifest to taunt him with one of the shittiest things he learned about himself, then why not ghost kids.
Done with processing all that, Jack nods and doesn't worry about that.
The ghost thing at least, he's still going to be worried about the kid given his reaction to being zapped.]
Okay. Guess ghosts can still get hurt, huh?
Can you move?
no subject
[ He sits up, groaning in pain as he rises back to his feet. ] Yeah. I can move.
[ But he's not going tangible again until he's sure no one's going to zap him. ]
We should get out of here. Lost fucking cause.
no subject
[Jack keeps pace as they leave the bar. Maybe he'd be willing to endure a series of hijinks to get a drink, but not if it risks getting a kid hurt like this, or worse.]
