[event/open] NEVER HAVE I EVER

What? Just a nice little icebreaker game to get to know everyone. :)


It takes a bit of work and a few rides on the tender, but there’s a neat little structure set up around where the tender has been letting passengers off.

There’s a makeshift bar out of some coolers from the sundries store and some chairs somehow dragged onto the tender, wrapped in paper to hide that it’s a bar made out of coolers and chairs.

Just that was a pain to set up, however, so the crowd seating is made up of beach towels and driftwood logs dragged down from further up the beach.

Most prominent is the makeshift banner set up behind the bar, a trail of paper taped up between two hockey sticks jammed into the sand. In big block letters (that are only slightly cramped near the end) is written the theme of this little get-together:

ICEBREAKER

8PM - “NEVER HAVE I EVER”

The makeshift bar is crowded with glasses with drinks already poured. Who did that and when? Uh... Someone in a Hawaiian shirt, right?

Right, anyway. There’s April taping another piece of paper to the sticks of the banner, and when there’s enough people around, whether or not they’re actually here for the game, the rules are loudly announced for all in earshot:

1. One person states something they have never done, in the form of: “Never have I ever...”


2. If you HAVE done that thing, you take a drink


3. Elaborate if you want


4. Repeat with the next person

Simple enough, right?

Honesty is not magically enforced, so it’s entirely up to your character if they choose to drink or not, or explain why or why not they’re drinking. Have fun! Learn about your fellow passengers!

[RULES FOR US, THE PLAYERS:
- Top levels are for your character making their ‘never have I ever’ statement
- Top levels are then replied to with your character drinking or not drinking, whatever you feel is notable
- From there, have people react/ask further questions/etc to those replies, thread as normal.

Every character gets ONE ‘never have I ever’ top post unless the response to this post is abysmal.]

[Natsuno downs two drinks. It smells and tastes awful and he decides to never do it again. Not like he CAN get drunk, anyway.]

So how many of you died back in your realities?

(ha. two drinks for him when there's going to be a third coming his way. but don't worry, her lips are still sealed. yep. but to answer his question:)

Thaaaat depends. We talkin' physically?

[Hi Jinx. Natsuno's actually more relaxed now that it's all set up.]

That's what I meant. Why, you kill your "old self" or whatever?

In a sense, yeah.

(and it's horribly unfortunate she's been doing a lot of drinking beforehand because now this means spilling her guts out. and natsuno is one of those people she would rather not tell so much about herself?)

— There was me and then there was "Powder". And there was a lotta tug of war between me and her. And y'know... had to push her down the well to get rid of her. She kept crawlin' out 'till finally I decided to seal it shut tight. So now it's me. Just Jinx and only Jinx.

[He hums quietly. She must be pretty drunk to share something this personal.]

Is it better? To be Jinx and only Jinx?

You betcha! "Powder" was a girl that screwed up a lot. None of her things worked, she was meek, couldn't fight, and was just in the way of everythin'. Such a huuuuuuge disappointment.

(jinx then takes another sip of her drink -- completely forgetting she should save it for the next "never have i" statement.)

Now Jinx? Jinx can handle juuuuust about anythin'. She's the life of the party, all of her things worked in fact, where I'm from, they all consider me a genius. No one can make weapons like I can. Sure, I miiiight go a lil' overboard whenever my Old man sent me off on missions but I did things people were afraid to do.

(lazily, she twirls her braid with her free hand.)

People may die, things might blow up but 'least I always accomplished my missions. The important thing was to bring peace, respect, and independence for my people. And I'd do it all again for 'em, too.

(what an interesting side of her she is showing.)

[Interesting indeed. There's something almost desperately manic in the way she compares "Powder" to Jinx, like she's trying to convince herself, but that's none of Natsuno's business. People should be free to make their own choices, including casting away the parts of themselves they hate.

No, what catches his attention most is her supposed goals. It makes sense for Jinx to be a mercenary of sort with her skills, and he's even less surprised that her missions go out of control.]

Fighting for a worthy cause, huh. Independence from who?

[opheliac]

Piltover. The city that sat above mine. The "City of Progress" is what they called it. A place where anythin' is possible and you live all fancy and great 'less you're a Zaunitie, like me.

And if you're like me, you lived underneath. To be shunned away from their light and forgotten. All the mold food you can eat and dirty water is lil' specks in 'em. Oh and we can't forget our best friends the rats. They become your family member after a while.

[Had Natsuno heard about it before the hostility started, he might have felt more sympathetic, given Jinx the benefit of doubt. Now, though - it's a painful story for sure, but cool motive, still murder.]

So you want to take what you deserve by force. [This is not an agreement but observation, confirming her motives.] Why not leave that place instead? Find somewhere better?

[opheliac]

One, I'd never abandon my people. And two, the only way out is to cross the bridge and go through Piltover. And people like me aren't allowed up there. You'll just get caught and be sent to Stillwater prison, maybe.

(thinking back on all of this twists her tone more somber -- staring down at her glass but looking through it more than at it.)

— Or they'll sent the Enforcers down to "speak" with us and give us a "reminder" how things are meant to work.

[Ah. Well, that changes things. Their circumstances are very different, but Natsuno can understand the rage of being trapped. He would never claim to have a noble cause, never cared for more than a handful of people, but if he was treated like and not even allowed to escape...

He leans against a log.]

I'd want to burn them all, too.

[The same way he helped lighting the spark that destroyed Sotoba and slaughtered all the shiki. They trapped him, tried to make choices for him - so they all had to die.]

(that gets a grin out of her and even a small chuckle. it's good to know someone gets her point of view to some degree. sure, there may be others on the boat with the same line of thinking. but the ones she came across were all about the opposite. to not be forceful or go to the extreme.)

Hey. Y'think after the... "you-know-what" we can have normal chats like this? Be wild, huh?

We're not gonna be friends, you know.

But we can be civil.

C'mooooonn, don't be such a spoilsport! I'm gonna miss our lil' spat. I won't be able to mess with ya like this again. You're not gonna miss me at all?

(because she will definitely miss him and terrorizing him.)
