[OPEN] October Information Meeting
Who: CALLING ALL PASSENGERS
What: It's afamily meeting Information Sharing Event!
When: October 1st, from the afternoon on.
Where: The Library!
Warnings: None? (Will add if necessary)
Notes: The information learned here can be osmosed by any character on the ship, regardless of whether or not they actively tag into the event. Consider this a game lore catch-up! Top-level comments don't have to be exclusive to the library,; if your character is likely to run off to the bar for a drink, or contemplate jumping off the bow, then you can include that prompt here as well! Basically a catch-all post for any "reacting to our existential crisis" posts you want!
The Setup:
A few nights beforehand, everyone Skulduggery's ever texted will receive a simple message:
The Library:
There are too many people to comfortably fit in one room, which will make it difficult for people to discuss the information that's been gathered. The library, thankfully, has anebulously existing front desk area that is... currently unattended by any ghosts? Weird.
Everything is mostly the same as you'd expect it, except the majority of the chairs have been pulled towards the front. A low table is settled there as well, with every copy of Battle Royale and Gil's Diner set out to read.
The front desk has an array of memo notebooks and flimsy Eterna branded notepads strewn across it, along with a variety of writing implements. As the day goes on, these notebooks and pads will be filled with more and more insights from other passengers.
There's a black binder sitting there too; this is full of the information Skulduggery specifically has to offer.
The Meeting:
"Meeting" may be an overstatement, when all's said and done. There's a bunch of information available to read, and a place to discuss and process with others. Some people may choose to try comforting those who are visibly upset. Others may want to read some of the books that inspired their previous ordeals.
At some point, the realization that the buffet is the only working restaurant will spread, and food may be brought down for an awkward potluck. Still others may begin to bring liquor into the library. It's really dealer's choice here, as far as coping mechanisms go.
One thing that can be taken away from the atmosphere of the room: be very certain you want to learn whatever's in that black binder.

The Setup:
A few nights beforehand, everyone Skulduggery's ever texted will receive a simple message:
A long overdue information-sharing session will be held all day in the library. It's time we all get on the same page regarding our situation. 1st of the month (is it October already?), attendance is encouraged. Please forward to interested parties.
That's how word spreads for the most part; but there are also some neatly printed notes pinned up in heavily traversed areas with the same simple news: Discussion of Our Situation: 10/1, Library. The Library:

The Black Binder
-- this is the latest in a long line of passengers
-- the Captain uses excursions as a way to generate memories/experiences, which he then trades for magic and power
-- every passenger appears to have a soul, which is what he takes from
-- the ghosts on the ship are former passengers who eventually had nothing left to give
-- the Serena Eterna is an "astral chamber" (but Skulduggery has no idea what that means)
-- the Captain does not know about the leis, which are protective. The only clue given about this (and the only one Skulduggery will ever say) is that they should be worn "if it seems that the world is about to end"
-- Friday is a servitor with a glamour similar to the Captain's (but Skulduggery doesn't seem inclined to describe what she looks like... that's because she's basically made of teeth and soil and blood like the world's worst gingerbread cookie)
-- She was created to care about the Captain and safeguard a piece of him
-- She seems to genuinely care for the passengers
-- "Please don't kill Friday, she doesn't deserve that."
-- the sundries gifts are flotsam that the Captain throws out; Friday wraps them and tries to give them to the people they seem to belong to
-- the Captain cannot be physically harmed on board
-- the Captain relies on torment because negative emotions are easier to generate than positive ones
-- the Captain has been researching deification not simply for power: he has been attempting to find a way to safeguard his own freedom.
-- excursions are often (but not exclusively) based on some form of media (battle royale + the diner specifically, the camp generally)
As the list goes on, it becomes apparent that the worst news is saved for last:
-- killing the Captain will kill everybody on board
-- that point is reiterated in bold underline: 🚫KILLING THE CAPTAIN WILL KILL EVERYBODY ON BOARD.🚫
-- the Captain has recovered memories recently that revealed some of his history. the outline Skulduggery gives is hella vague: humans raided his village at a young age and sold him into slavery. it was only after he escaped that the Eterna was created
-- (he won't be sharing it publicly at this time, but he has discovered that the Captain is a jinn. there are only a few people he's told, but the information WILL be spread... eventually.)
-- "We are what others perceive us to be."
-- the entire purpose of the ship is to encourage fighting against the Captain. trying to murder him is literally playing into his hands.
-- passengers are caught up in the Eterna at random. there is no reason for their existence here except... luck.
And finally, the worst news is delivered:
-- returning home is impossible, because "you" are technically already there. returning to the moment of abduction would result in oblivion, as the "timeline" version of the passenger would not remember anything of their time here.
-- the passengers are like "frames" of themselves, snapshots taken from a moment in time. their realities, their worlds, their stories, are all moving forward as planned. (Skulduggery doesn't specify who planned what.)
-- so being here doesn't destroy things at home, but there's no way for a passenger to return home with the character development/knowledge/memories that they've gained here.
-- also if you try to go back to your reality but at a different time, you're probably gonna destroy reality. maybe all realities???
Maybe it's supposed to be good news, added at the very end:
-- going home may be impossible, but there's still a chance that they might be able to live elsewhere. moving off of the ship and to a new reality, as opposed to living here forever or becoming a ghost OR obliterating yourself, is presented as a neutral-to-positive development.
All of this is written in Skulduggery's more precise and clipped style, and reads very matter-of-factually.

[BLACK BINDER] ADDENDUM I
--
canon jumpstime-skips can occur, where a passenger may suddenly find themselves waking up the following morning with new memories of their lives back home-- this can be accompanied by physical changes (skulduggery simply writes "I got a new skull out of it.")
-- these time-skips are completely random and as of yet have no explanation
-- Friday calls it a "timeline whoopsie-daisy" and the Captain has no clear understanding of how they happen
