[OPEN] i'm taking back the crown
Who: "Jeff" & anyone who wants to visit
What: Jail :(
When: Mid-month (immediately after this post) til... end of month? What's time anymore, I don't know
Where: The Brig :(
Warnings: Possible references to violence, possession, character death
Notes: it's pretty likely that there's somebody guarding the brig at any given time, even if they're not explicitly mentioned, so things aren't likely to go off the rails here. hit me up at
weeyotch / weeyotch#8200 if you want to plot anything specific!
I see what's mine and take it
Ughhhhhhh. The brig! Is! So! Boring!! How is it, after two-and-whatever years trapped in this hellhole (plus or minus a year, decade, century, whatever, who knows how long it's been since he shuffled off to the great Nothing), this is his first time seeing the inside of the brig? Back on his cruise, if he acted up too much, and someone had to put him down? They went ahead and did it.
But not this time. No, now he's just sitting in a cell, dying of boredom, because the passengers don't have the balls to kill him.
But hey, you know what? Silver linings, looking at the bright side, turning lemons into lemonade, whatever: At least he doesn't have to pretend to be Jeff anymore.
Anyone who comes and visits (interrogates?) him will find that while he may look like sweet, simple, stupid Jeff, everything about him-- the way he moves, the way he speaks, the expressions on this face-- he's all Chase Collins.
Not that... not that anyone knows who Chase Collins is. But, well, if you want to find out, now's your chance.

what are timelines a this point
There are some useful things about this body, most notably the fact that people trust this goody-two-shoes. It's not hard for her to offer to take over guarding for a minute or ten whilst someone else runs to another deck for something. That's long enough for her to get some time alone with the little asshole without worrying about being overheard.
"You feeling proud of yourself?"

"Always." A beat, before he laughs giddily. "I mean, come on! I straight up killed a guy, and I'm still alive!"
Can you believe it, 'Crabb'? Nobody even killed him!
no subject
"Unfortunately." That lacks a little of the bite it would usually have, because what's actually unfortunate right now is she has to be grateful no one killed Chase, or Ginger, or Omori. Their situation only gets worse if anyone dies. "They really are soft, aren't they? I don't get it. How has this trip been going months and they're not prepared to turn you into a smear on the floor just 'cause you're wearing that stupid face?"
The sentimentality and so on makes absolutely no sense. Who the hell uses the brig on this ship? It locks from the inside!
"If it wouldn't be more trouble than it's worth, I'd be tempted to take you out right now after that reckless stunt."
no subject
And now Chase rolls his eyes.
"Why? It's not like this hurt your plans." Or did it? Who knows. Who cares, really. "We're all still alive, We've got these bodies, and everything's fine. They're not even willing to kill any of us."
no subject
"People wouldn't suspect we were here at all if you'd just. Laid. Low." So yeah, every single person that got busted before she started having troubles is at least a little at fault in her mind. What do you expect from her, huh Chase? "Anyway. There's a couple that seem to have spines. Even if they won't kill us, they're not gonna let this stand forever."
Is it paranoia when it's a justified fear? Eh, maybe.
"That's where them actually liking the people we've taken becomes a problem. It may stop them killing us, but..."
no subject
"No amount of laying low in the world was going to stop the boyfriend from seeing through me." Possibly literally, as if he's got some divine x-ray vision.
"So... We knock 'em off the board first. Easy."
no subject
"Easy? Right. Easy. Because there's totally not more of them than there are of us." She shakes her head and gestures vaguely at his situation. "You're literally in the brig. You're not going to be knocking anything off the board any time soon. The rest of us..."
She's not sure what their next move is. Assuming there's a next move to be made at all is a stretch, with the lot of them being... who they are. But they can't just wait to be taken out one by one, either.

He can leave anytime he wants! Like, sure, okay, there are people to get past, but whatever. He can do it if he felt like dealing with the inevitable headache of would-be heroes and-- best case?-- going on the lam in an enclosed ship. Not ideal.
Better to save the breakout for the right moment.
"We've got what they don't: the balls--" He grins and gestures vaguely to her. "--well, metaphorically-- to really make 'em hurt. We actually work together, do one big strike? There's no stopping us."
no subject
"You're a known problem now, Chase. They'll send their heavies after you if you break out and believe me, they're nothing to be sniffed at. They might still not kill you, but they don't need to."
She's thinking about Erin and Murderbot, mostly, being the two she has the most experience as both herself and from Crabb's memories with, but there's more. And honestly the heavies are less the point than the fact she, personally, refuses to have faith in Chase's ability to stay uncaught.
Petty? Yes. Does she care? No.
"Anyway. You're not wrong." It's exactly what Pickles said, even. And she does actually agree, begrudgingly. "But. Easier said than done. It isn't going to be as easy as it sounds. Hopefully no one's been stupid enough to tell them anything they could actually use against us, at least."
Pointed look.
no subject
He shrugs one shoulder carelessly.
"I'm not worried about any heavies. We get a good plan together, and I'll hang out in here until it's time to play again. No problem. Easy as pie. I'll be on my best behavior, in the meantime." He holds up three fingers. Scouts honor!
no subject
"I'll believe that when I see it." That he'll behave or that he'll keep his mouth shut? Yes. She doesn't even expect him to do it on purpose, just talk too much, but it's the same result.
"But I'll give you one thing. No one is ever going to believe we're working together at all, the way you've acted. It'd be almost clever if it was planned."

What he gets in response to that is Daisy folding her arms and a long, hard, very disbelieving, very judgemental look. Why bother saying anything when an expression can do it all without the extra effort?
