[OPEN] i'm taking back the crown
Who: "Jeff" & anyone who wants to visit
What: Jail :(
When: Mid-month (immediately after this post) til... end of month? What's time anymore, I don't know
Where: The Brig :(
Warnings: Possible references to violence, possession, character death
Notes: it's pretty likely that there's somebody guarding the brig at any given time, even if they're not explicitly mentioned, so things aren't likely to go off the rails here. hit me up at
weeyotch / weeyotch#8200 if you want to plot anything specific!
I see what's mine and take it
Ughhhhhhh. The brig! Is! So! Boring!! How is it, after two-and-whatever years trapped in this hellhole (plus or minus a year, decade, century, whatever, who knows how long it's been since he shuffled off to the great Nothing), this is his first time seeing the inside of the brig? Back on his cruise, if he acted up too much, and someone had to put him down? They went ahead and did it.
But not this time. No, now he's just sitting in a cell, dying of boredom, because the passengers don't have the balls to kill him.
But hey, you know what? Silver linings, looking at the bright side, turning lemons into lemonade, whatever: At least he doesn't have to pretend to be Jeff anymore.
Anyone who comes and visits (interrogates?) him will find that while he may look like sweet, simple, stupid Jeff, everything about him-- the way he moves, the way he speaks, the expressions on this face-- he's all Chase Collins.
Not that... not that anyone knows who Chase Collins is. But, well, if you want to find out, now's your chance.

Big blond hair. Floating through walls. This is him, right?
"Hey." His smile grows into a sharp grin. "Neat trick."

Omori reminds him of someone he knew back home. Chase doesn't, so there are no pesky feelings to get in the way of just being upfront with what he wants to know.
"So, like, ghost to ghost. The fuck're you doing here? Is it just that being dead fucking sucks?" he says, "I'm not a snitch or anything. I got more in common with you than I do with them."
He means that because they're ghosts, and they know what it's like to be dead and trapped in some awful place they don't want to be. But if he knew that the previous passengers were more eager to fight the captain - and each other - he'd mean it that way, too.

"Sucks doesn't even begin to cover it." He snorts. "You're dead back home, huh? Me too." He was never a ghost, his consciousness never continued, but he knows he died. There's no coming back from all that fire. "When you die here-- really die, I mean, there's..." He waves a hand, dismissive, as if the gesture can mask any of the very real fear he feels. "Nothing." He says it with a particular weight, a significance, that may imply that it's not like going to sleep or blacking out. It's a different type of nothing entirely. "No moving on, no haunting, no ending." His expression pulls into a look of pure resentment. "Juuuust... nothing."
no subject
And he's carried that anger over and projected it onto the Captain. He has a body to fight with here, only to end up with everyone telling him that fighting is pointless. That's it's been done. That the best thing to try is helping the one who brought them here, who has sent countless souls to nothing.
Ain't that a bitch? Vance scowls.
"Of course. I bet he makes it like that on purpose, too. Bastard."
no subject
Honestly? Chase would feel the exact same way in his ghostly shoes.
"I wouldn't put it past him. I mean, yeah, okay, they say the Captain just tosses us out to the great Nothing when we've got nothing left to give, but." Chase chuckles bitterly. "I think it's his way of wringing the last drops of misery he can get out of us."
no subject
And that, if nothing else, makes Vance happy. It makes him think the Captain could die like that, too, if only they had one more good go at it. And if killing him kills them all, then at least they went out fighting instead of being used up and tossed out.
"Yeah. That's gotta be it. He's convinced some of the other passengers that they should help him. I don't buy it, not one bit," he says, "So are you guys here to get a vacation from nothing or do you wanna fuck him up?"
no subject
That grin gives way to a sharp, very abrupt (and almost incredulous) laugh as Vance dishes that next bit of information.
"Seriously? They want to help that son of a bitch?" He rolls his eyes. "Oh my god, these passengers are next level gullible." He snorts, and adds, "Maybe I should've tried the pity approach."
But as for that question!
"Vacations end, man. We want to live. And the Captain's gonna pay for what he did to us..." He doesn't say it outright, but there's a hint of an invitation in his voice. Revenge can be yours, too, Vance. It's not like he's a good candidate for possession, anyway.
"I'm Chase, by the way."
no subject
And he's mad about that, because people he's come to like in his own way are going to be pissed at him if he ever takes his shot at vengeance. He was hated back home, and then he got the smallest taste of what it meant to help someone. To know that one kid, at least, would carry on with positive memories of him.
Here, he's on a fast course to being hated again. But it's the results that matter, not his stupid feelings.
"I'm Vance. And I want to make him pay, too."
no subject
The Captain can milk this group of suckers for a long time.
"The way I see it... you get the softies on board, and there won't be anyone to stop us from hitting the Captain while he's weak."
no subject
Not that it'll totally change Vance's mind if it's true. Killing the Captain so he stops doing this seems like a better option than letting him take soul after soul.
"I've been trying to get people on my side but I'm more of a fighting guy than a talking guy," he says, "Do you have anything you think would work?"
no subject
Which, hey, Chase gets. He's no stranger to taking things to extremes in the name of self preservation. But it's one thing when he's doing it to a handful of teenagers in Ipswich (whose-- let's not forget-- bloodline totally screwed over his bloodline). It's another thing entirely when some godlike wizard asshole does it to him!
"Although..." Chase looks up, at the ceiling, and around, as if trying to suss something out. "He could be telling the truth. Depends on the magic he's using..."
So, obvious solution: become as powerful as the Captain and take over. Easy!! Or, at least, something to think about.
"Maybe... Maybe what we need is a chance to tell everyone the real story." Chase sighs, frowning a little. "I don't think anyone here has any idea what's in store for them."
no subject
"What's the real story?" he says, "Maybe if everyone knew what was in store they'd stop pussyfooting around."
