1 / it's all right now (the drunken sailor)

[ Before the party, Vance was gifted with the mangled remains of Fio's teddy bear, Judith. One of the ghosts did it, and he feels kind of silly doing something so sentimental for a teddy bear, but he knows it's because the ghost was avenging him for Judith's previous attack. So, in a way, he feels responsible.

He chose The Drunken Sailor because it's where Knife Club is held, and also because he thinks Fio is unlikely to wander in and see Judith before it's all fixed up. There's some threads in all different colors set out and everyone is encouraged to take a different one and fix the bear a little bit at a time. That way, Fio will know how many different people all came together for her.

Vance is sitting at the table with a bit of read thread, starting to sew the arm back on. He isn't very good at it, but this is a group effort anyway. ]

2 / but don't give yourself away

[ Sometime after fixing Judith, Vance can be found all around the ship. He's not as devastated as he was in the aftermath of the party, but he's not entirely back to normal, either. He's...somewhere in between.

If someone saw him take down not-Friday, he's willing to talk about it. He also wants to catch up with anyone he knows who was possessed and isn't anymore.

Once in a while, too, he lifts up the corner of his white tank top and (for the first time since he's been here) takes an actual look at the knife-wound scars that were left behind. He's hated those scars since the first time he saw them and has done whatever it takes to keep them covered. After seeing Judith - all full of stitches but still wanted and still okay - he thinks, finally, that they might not be so hideous after all. ]

3 / it's only teenage wasteland (closed to clarke)

[ As much as he tries to play the tough guy, the last month weighed on him something fierce and he feels like he's about to burst if he doesn't get some of his feelings out into the world. Clarke's been trying to nudge him into sharing a little ever since they went to beach, so he just lets it slip. ]

I lied. I am scared. Of a lot of things. [ About ending up like the ghosts here and being sent to the Nothing, yes, but also of the monsters from his past even if they aren't here anymore. ]

Mai Mizusaki is a seamstress, but I never thought about where she learned it. I just assumed as an apprentice. That's how it is in Hell. [Yeah... One day he might stop referring to 1582 Japan as Hell but... probably won't.]

[Listen, Nobunaga is fully aware he isn't truly dealing with a literal demon possession inside out now, but 1582 Japan is Hell as far as he's concerned. Luis Frois always said he was waging a holy war against real demons. Just becausehe didn't believe it before doesn't mean he doesn't believe it now. There is a lot of fire in hell... mostly because Nobunaga set a lot of things on fire. The sulfur (brimstone) is just 1/2 of gunpowder so yeah, lots of that too... because of Nobunaga. Things happen. Don't even get him started on religion. He decides he should probably not mention those things directly. No need tto terrify the kid, unless directly asked further.]

What other classes are there? Agriculture? Music? Economics?

[He did read a bunch of the Bailey Kids' books. Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots etc. So he has SOME BARE baseline of it. Kind of. Not much. He knows that "recess" is spent on a playground, but with little idea what that is like.]

They were allowed, I guess. But all the guys always picked shop and the girls always picked home ec.

[ Because of parental and peer pressure, mostly, not because none of them wanted to go against the grain. Vance didn't like either option, but he picked shop because that's what guys did. ]

Music, yeah. But not the kind of music I like. [ Maybe if there were classes on heavy metal, he'd have cared. ] Math, History, Literature, Science...all the basics. And Gym, too. I don't really play sports but I like dodgeball.

[ Throwing things at people as hard as he can? Hell yes. ]

What's dodgeball? Do they do sumo wrestling? How many sports are there? Why is that called gym? Crichton mentioned football involves tackling, and is played for November. Is there room enough for that here? Do you know how to play Tennis? [QUESTIONS FOR AGES VANCE.]

I like metal and rock music. Dodgeball's a game where you're on two teams and have to hit people on the other team with a rubber ball. When you're hit, you're out. Last team that still has people on it wins. I dunno anything about those other sports, though, that's the only one I really liked.
