Cowboy Crafts Corner
Who: Okie and you!
What: Quilting, sewing lessons, and being weirdly okay about dying
When: Early January
Where: The buffet
Come one, come all to the Cowboy Crafts Corner! Your host, Okie, has placed a quickly made poster or two around the ship, and has set up shop on a bunch of pushed together buffet tables one quiet evening. Among the supplies to be found are a huge pile of Tommy Bahama shirts, collected in armfulls over the course of several days, a set of square plates borrowed from the diner, a handful of markers, one pair of scissors, two steak knives, and every sewing kit he could find in the general store.
The theme of this day's project will be quilting! There will be stations for stenciling, where participants will use the plates and markers to mark squares in the shirts, cutting, where participants will use one sharp implement or another to cut said squares out of the shirts, and sewing, where the individual squares will be made into other, much bigger squares. Okie will be keeping tabs on the stock of shirts available for disassembly and offering assistance or teaching around the sewing stations.
The main rule is to have fun! Secondary rules include not using the cutting implements on any other participants and telling Number 6 if he asks that Okie really promises to clean up after and return the plates and knives.

Well, mostly casual. "How's, uh... How's he farin', by the by? I know the resort was less than ideal for a lot of us, but I heard he had a particularly nasty customer service experience."

At the question, he flinches a bit and looks down. “Yes. He was... harmed greatly in the attack.” Dedue tries to block the vivid memory that instantly flashes into his head, but it’s already too late. “He is healed now. But he is still somewhat on edge.”

He sighs. "Sorry to bring up that shitshow. I figure it musta been real rough for the people that had to find us after."
no subject
He breathes in. “Yes. It was...” Gruesome? Horrific? Enraging?
He shuts his eyes and shudders.
“It is over now. I do not wish to trouble you with it.”
no subject
Okie gives Dedue a short glance as he takes in the shudders and pauses.
"Let's not trouble either of us with it, then. Here's somethin' else; how you spend yer time 'round here?"
no subject
“I tend to the deck garden, and I have several embroidery projects I have been working on. I have also been playing a game called Tetris in the arcade. It is where you stack blocks on top of each other.”
no subject
"I know the one. Good game, Tetris. But, back a thing or two, did I hear you say a garden? What kinda stuff you got in that garden? You've got no idea what I'd do to see a real livin' plant right now."
no subject
“It is not a true garden. The trees and plants were carried here from an expedition to a tropical island. Most of the locations of the expeditions are generated by the Captain, but apparently this was a real place. The plant life cannot truly grow here, but Bastion and I have been maintaining it nonetheless. I can show you after the activity today, if you wish to see it.”
He considers bringing up the garden in Ossie and Giles’ cottage, but decides against it. He may bring Okie’s interest up with them, but that the hospitality of that cottage comes with it wounds that run deep. Dedue will not abuse the trust that pair has bestowed upon him.

"I'd love to see 'em, yeah. Don't know much 'bout island plants, but I know my way 'round a garden."
no subject
“I miss real gardens too,” he says quietly. “Nothing here can compare. There is no life here. The plants we have taken are just as cut off from the natural growth of their lives as we are.”
no subject
He thinks for a second about Dedue's comment that the plants are like them.
"If you forget to water 'em, do they come back in a day like us?"
no subject
“I would be inclined to believe it depends on whether they are seen as a part of the ship by those in charge. In the worlds that the Captain has fabricated, trees and plants are only vague shapes meant for the background, not for interaction. I do not think that he or Friday understand them or place much value in them, unless they can be part of the cruise experience. But I also do not understand much of how the magic works here.”
