(she hadn't noticed until now just how much she missed his voice; his singing. and even with her eyes closed, she smiles warmly while entwining their fingers together. she hopes they can have more moments like this -- sweet long moments of the two of them enjoying each other's company. two of them singing, laughing, talking, loving and trusting each other.

her ball of light sure is lovely and sometimes she can't help but to wonder if she deserves someone as caring as him. she's done so much, said so much, hurt and killed others. and yet even so, here he is still hovering and aglow. if only there's something she can do for him -- something that hasn't been done before. he is receiving kindness from others, he is getting love from mizuki, and there has to be something that she can give him that only she can provide -- something special. but what would that even be? her light seems to have everything it could possibly want, why else would it shine like this?)

I've missed your singing.

[wimdy]

[ he lets the song end naturally, to trail in a pleased hum as he gently laces their fingers together, gives hers a soft squeeze. and then a quiet admission, ] I missed yours, too.

I would sing to you any time, you know. Or perhaps we could sing together like we used to, whether at karaoke or anywhere else. Anytime you might like.

Once you recover from this, of course.

[ he might be more comfortable offering what he can to people rather than receiving much at all. ]

I don't know many songs so you'll have to teach one.

(shifting in the mattress, she positions herself so she can look at him better as she opens her eyes -- letting her thumb brush along the skin of his index.)

... I never said sorry about shooting you back there. I... don't really remember doing it. Not all the way through, anyway. Is there somethin' I can do to make up for that? You get one "jinx freebie" card.

Ehe... right, you did do that. [ he is so damn biased he could be shot and kind of... shrug it off. but he is inhuman, he does think it better that he was shot than anyone else.

he could ask for something silly, but maybe more important than that-- ]

That you don't attack Caitlyn, for at least one week?

[ a big ask but if he could broker some peace, maybe this could work for a little while. ]

Why?

(and she says nothing else beyond that. just a straight-up flat out "why". because honestly while she was in and out of the reality on what was going on that day, she knows definitely venti was in sound mind. therefore, he should remember all the horrible things that she said to her. and statements like that should not go without any sort of punishment.)

I'm not saying that she's right or that you are. I know both of you have legitimate reasons to be each others' enemy.

But obviously... this isn't Piltover or Zaun. You remember when you returned home even briefly, you'd forgotten about what happened on this ship right? Even if you attack her or kill her, she'd simply return. And if or when the two of you return home, neither of you would recall anything of your battles here.

Wouldn't it just be a waste of effort?

(as a response, she exhales out a very long immature groan. and this is an indication that deep down, she knows venti is right. if she peels off all the rage she has for caitlyn, what he says makes a whole lot of sense. and she hates that he makes so much sense and he has a point.

so when she's done groaning, she finally speaks:)

Maybe. It'll make me feel better.

(she sourly mumbles this as she quietly huffs to look up at the ceiling.)

Mm, I can understand that. [ he gets self-indulgence very well, though in his case it would be for alcohol and naps rather than violence or revenge. still, he can't really judge that much... he isn't terribly judgmental anyway.

but he thinks he's prooobably getting somewhere. ]

Think of it as this: you only have a limited amount of weaponry or bullets or explosives on this ship. You could use them on her or anyone else and get the satisfaction of winning against your enemy, but they would only return later and perhaps seek revenge. Maybe it'd only be a waste of your weapons when you could save them to use against, say, the Captain.

(mutely, she listens to his words and by the end of it -- especially the last thing -- jinx turns her head over to grant him a hard squint. because once again, he... has a point. and she's beginning to really hate how reasonable he is and being that little jiminy cricket voice of reason for her. but it is true, she is trying to get to the captain and wanting to be the one to end him. because killing captain would mean sitting on the royal throne for her.

but not only that, it would be something that silco would want for her to do. to get close and in with the captain as much as possible then be the one to cut off the snake's head. and if the off chance silco arrives on the ship, he will see her in control and then she will gladly step down for him to take over. so really, she is doing this solely for him; to keep the seat warm until he makes it through. if... what caitlyn said is false.)

(jinx lightly tosses her head back on the pillow, a hand rubbing her forehead while the other still entwine with his. her brain is so mushy to even think clearly.)

Yeah? Ever thought that maybe she is my favorite waste of bullets? — And if let's say I do this lil' favor of yours, if she or my other preys charge at me first, you expect me to just take it?

(just that thought of doing that makes her chuckle.)

Eh heh heh, news flash, Braids — not my style. If someone wants to play with me, it's only fair I should give 'em what they want.

[ he does seem to be getting through to her... maybe this is totally working. maybe she's in a more malleable mood while she's still a little high off of shimmer, but maybe this is as good progress regardless. ]

Well, of course I'm not asking you to simply roll over and take it if she does get violent to you. Like I said, I understand why the two of you oppose each other so. But, still...

Is it truly something that would make you happy? If you fight with her or kill her, or anyone else you have a grudge against. After you killed Mr. Gogol... is it really, honestly that satisfying? More so than a favorite meal, or for instance singing with me, or just being with someone you care for?

Of course it was satisfying, silly! Not only the scarecrow got what was comin' to him, he also never came back. — So it's like I won and there's nothin' he can do to change that.

(been months since his disappearance and she will forever bathe in that glory between the two of them. all that big talking he did while he was on board ended up being his downfall. and it makes her feel strong, really. she might have not won the battle royale but at least she has that small victory to still clutch to.)

I wouldn't say it's more but it's definitely up there.

... I see. [ it's a little depressing to hear, but...

he's not the type to really coerce someone into changing their mind. maybe this much is enough for now. it's not more she says, perhaps it's good enough to be satisfied with this much. ]

Even so, I'll be happy if you could just consider it a little more. If you and she clash again... I'd gotten injured in this one after all. I know you weren't exactly aiming for her, but you or even she might accidentally hurt passerby or people by the wayside too.

(frowning, jinx sits up (and probably shouldn't since she instantly got dizzy) and shimmies her way closer to him. she lets go of his hand but only to link her arms around him; draping over his shoulders. a cheek pressing against his with a small nuzzle.

she doesn't like how her light sounded so disappointed in her answer. jinx is aware people will always have different thoughts and opinions on this but it doesn't make her heart ache any less.)

It won't happen again. I promise...

You don't have to promise something like that. I don't like holding people to contracts or anything, you know. [ but, it's nice to feel her like this, trying to reassure him. he nuzzles back with a sigh, resting his cheek to hers, eyes going half-closed in trusting proximity to her. this familiarity. ]

I really did mean what I said, if you consider it that's enough for me. I won't demand more than that.

(she's quiet and still for moment -- simply just taking in this closeness with him. it's truly nice to have him all to herself like this. it irritates her that she has to share him with mizuki but she is thankful he is willing to still give her time regardless being with another.)

(she says with another rub against his -- a hand idly moving up to one of his braids; fingers lightly flicking it from side to side.)

I won't hurt the Enforcer. But I'll do it only for you...

that takes him by surprise and it shows. he recalls after all, trying to talk to her and reason with her over giving peace or nonviolence a try after sending out that letter over text, how pessimistic she'd been, how he'd even tried to recruit fio to convince her. and he knows how much she hates caitlyn, how she likely has the right to...

maybe she's just exceptionally woozy still from shimmer.

but, ] I'd appreciate that. [ he moves to gather a bit of blanket, drape it around her shoulders. then move to half-hug her back. ] And... I'll see if I can talk to her too.

You don't have to be friends. You don't even have to not be enemies. Just... there are better things to focus on besides her, all right?

(this is definitely better. he sounded so disappointed before and now she hopes she made him feel just a little bit relieved; content. jinx is so use to doing whatever she wanted, when she wanted, and how she wanted. and although she will still continue to do those things, she has toys friends now. the request he wants from her is downright ridiculous -- completely absurd, really. but... she cares deeply for his happiness, his comfort. and the very last thing she wants are her toys friends fleeing from her due to conflicts.

and besides, she did harm him which was completely out of line. yes, she does believe only she is allowed to hurt him but only if he charges at her first. but in that case, he did nothing but stood and listened. so it's the least she could do for her ball of light. but —)

Don't get too excited. Only for a week, like you said.
