Who: John Watson, Johnny Summer, and César Salazar with Rich Goranski, Fio, and Honoria Crabb AND YOU Oh god why are weddings like this
What: The throuple getting married by... the Captain?!
When: December 11th at 7pm
Where: John's
Warnings: I believe in us! But for now, nothing.
SEATING
John's has been transformed, the seating up front rearranged in rows towards the center dias with an aisle down the middle, the piano moved off to one side. The buffet for later can be seen off to the other. Decorations taken from Spirit Halloween appear here and there–flowers taken from cavalera flower crowns, sun and moon candlestick holders from the tarot collection, festively colored tablecloths draped down the walls like curtains or banners. A sign near the entrance says "seat yourself", although the front row on one side is reserved with a ribbon across the backs.
What can't be seen is who is officiating. Or the husbands, but at least that part makes sense. The dais is empty.
THE CEREMONY
As one of the few traditions in this wedding, music announces the start of the ceremony. Rich strolls in first, trying to look professional even if he’s clearly shaking a bit as he holds the small pillow with the rings laid on it. At least he’s dressed quite smartly, Johnny ensuring his red suit is wrinkle free and his cuff links are set in place. Fio, in a winged black dress and flowery headdress, follows after the ring bearer, adorning the path with paper petals as she moves along.
The first husband to be down the aisle is none other than Johnny, in a smart charcoal grey suit with a goldenrod pocketsquare, gold jewelry, and a wreath of orange blossoms on his head; and accompanied by Honoria Crabb in her perfectly tailored black tuxedo, worn with black gloves and a white bow tie. Watson and César take up the rear, arms linked together. César is wearing an equally fancy suitcoat with his tie held in place with a ruby and silver tie pin, and Watson is wearing an officer’s dress uniform, with the sword and without the helmet, and also his good cane. All three husbands-to-be are wearing green carnation boutonnières.
AFTER PARTY
It's time to eat, dance, and party!
The seating has been rearranged for sitting at tables around the "dance" floor. Food from Windjammer has been placed on some tables for a buffet. There’s a selection of fancy cheeses and crackers, sushi, premade sandwiches, and salad with dressings on the side. For dessert, to one side there’s a table with cupcakes, cookies, and chocolates arranged in a heart. On the bar are a couple bowls of punch (including one explicitly labeled as non-alcoholic) made by Johnny ahead of time, because he's been forbidden to bartend his own wedding, much to his deep chagrin.
There’s a space set just off the dancefloor for musicians who wish to perform, the usual John’s piano (bribed into behaving with a whole pan of beef brisket from the buffet) off to one side.

Shi Qingxuan giggles and gives Johnny a playful wink. Of course she wouldn't miss one of the first acquaintances she made here getting married! It's a big event, one that she wouldn't want to neglect for anything. And for that, Shi Qingxuan's pulled together some sort of outfit, wearing a long dress and a loose, navy blue shirt that acts as a sort of coat, along with the dangling earrings, gemstone rings, and gold bracelets that she had arrived with to add some opulence to the whole thing. She also styled her hair up with braids and twists, a change from the usual ponytail she's been sporting.
...though, whether Johnny recognizes Shi Qingxuan in this form or not isn't something Shi Qingxuan herself even considers as she goes on, lifting a shiny red giftbag as she continues, "Congratulations on your wedding! May you have a long and happy life together, until you're old and grey!"
There's a bottle of ice wine inside the bag, along with a card containing well wishes like, "Wishing you a hundred years of happiness," and illustrations of flowers with three little ducks huddled together.
no subject
"Thank you very much. We didn't really expect presents under the circumstances. You've truly outdone yourself."
no subject
Before he can say anything to that, though, she cheerfully explains, "So, I gave you some sweet wine to enjoy together. The start of a happy marriage should be sweet, after all."
no subject
Startled, intrigued, but certainly not upset to see her in a different gender expression.
no subject
"I look good, right? Since it's such a big event, I need to look my best."
She pauses. Technically, Johnny didn't actually say she looked nice like this, just different. Raising her glass to her lips, she ventures:
"...don't you think?"
no subject
Or if this is the appropriate time and place.
no subject
"We're both friends, so even if it's rude, you should ask it. In return, I'll ask a rude question of you, too."
Her voice is light and happy, as if she's proposing a game.
no subject
He considers her for a moment, weighing his words thoughtfully. "Was I mistaken in believing you were a man, when we first met?"
no subject
"No, there was no mistake," she replies as plainly as if she were counting out change, "I'm a man.
"But, as you said," she straightens and sits tall, smiling confidently as she shows off her dress and the golden locket shining against the blue fabric, "this look is stunning. As someone with a keen eye and good taste, so I'm sure you understand?"
Did he notice that her nails are painting coral pink before? He can now, because she rests her hand on her chest there beside her locket as she preens.
no subject
There's a tiny part of him (the transgender man from the 1910s) that's envious, but the rest is just in awe and amused. If he had the power to switch freely, he might play around, too.
no subject
This is her go-to reasoning whenever questioned, though there are also a few dozen more excuses up her sleeve that she can whip out depending on the situation and who's asking. The mention of identity turns her expression momentarily thoughtful, but this is supposed to be a good time, and besides...
She pauses, giving Johnny a long, meaningful look, before humming, "Would you want to try it too?"

1/2
First sixteen years? Tried being a woman? Try out having a dick?!
Finally, her brain finishes processing, and it clicks. It's a literal, "Oh," moment where she mumbles just that.
Frankly, she likes - loves - having friends crossdress with her. It's fun! It's exciting to see! It makes the whole designated goddess by believers thing a bit less lonely...
Now this suddenly feels somewhat awkward. More than being rejected in the usual way would.
no subject
He wants to talk?! She slaps her free hand to her knee, exclaiming, "Ha! Then you're in luck today, Mr. Summer: There's only one spell. If you want to try having one, then you only need to cast it yourself to do it. So, would you like to give it a go?"
no subject
He noticed her reaction, though, and there's a gentleness to his smile. "I believe it's your turn to ask me a rude question, Shi Qingxuan."
no subject
"That's right! Now you owe me an answer too..." She drums her fingers against her knee, considering how exactly to pose this question. "To be honest with you, this is the first wedding of its type that I've ever seen. The ceremony was very beautiful, but now I have a lot of questions. So, my first rude question is: What are the ranks between the three of you...?"
no subject
Okay, yes, César may tend to fall into a submissive role more often in bed, but that doesn't mean he's lesser than John and Johnny in any way. And that's not knowledge for public consumption, anyway.
no subject
To the answer she actually gets, she nods along very seriously.
"So you're husbands of equal rank with each other."
She accepts that, and then has another question to lob at him:
"Then, why were only one of you in red? Aside from..." His words cut off, but he tries to recover them, "...Among you and your husbands, that is."
no subject
“This is the sharpest suit I have.”
no subject
Oh well. Of all the differences between worlds, she can't be that bothered over this. More importantly.
"Well, I'll say, you all look especially sharp today. Your Watson's military attire is very handsome, but you certainly don't lose out."
She finishes her glass and sets it back down at the bar, and when she looks up again, her mood seems to have lifted.
"So, this ceremony, is it a blend of each of your preferences?"
no subject
He glances over to the Captain and Skulduggery thoughtfully.
"I wasn't sure if he'd play nice with us tonight."
no subject
Shi Qingxuan pouts in thought, now thinking the entire alien nature of the whole affair makes much more sense when it's the captain's preferences. Then, she follows Johnny's gaze, and the warm curiosity in her bright eyes cools.
"It would be bad to misbehave at a wedding you yourself agreed to conduct," she tuts. "Of course, you took your chance on that assumption as well, didn't you?"
no subject
And perhaps that was foolhardy of him, but the risk did pay off. Really, though, it was about doing things properly; it'd have been wrong to ask Stede, another captain on the ship, to officiate before inviting the Captain to do so.
no subject
"It has," she winks. "Now you're officially wed, and you could even say you have the blessing of the captain himself!"
She takes another glass of champagne between her fingers, and takes a sip, her eyes peering at Johnny from over the rim of her glass.
"So, do you think he's turned over a new leaf?"
